i endow 71' Four years ago we started a new adventure, our high school years. 1953 seemed far in the future, but the time went much faster than we imagined it would. Our Freshman year was filled with money making enterprises. Among them were square dances, food sales and dances after basketball games. Our treasury was off to a good start. We added new friends to our class. To end our freshman year we had a. class picnic, one which none of us will forget. As Sophomores we had more dances, and we also sponsored a hayride. That year our class was one of the largest in the school, and we certainly had a great deal of enthusiasm. When we came back to school as Juniors, two new experiences awaited us. Everyone was excited about our class rings. Then in May plans for the Jun- ior Prom took shape. We tried a different decorating plan in Blue and White, and to everyone's delight the prom was a success. The biggest surprise was that we made a profit! Then at last we were Seniors carrying a heavy load of responsibilities. The first event was the Senior Play, Teen Time which added another good time for us to remember. A food sale and dance followed. Soon after mid-year exams the yearbook staff went to work. Now we are all looking forward to the thing we've been working for, our Senior trip. The climax of these years will come in June when we graduate. Although we have grumbled about homework and regents, we've had fun and will miss Martin Van Buren High and the friends we have made here. 10
