E RE l'l0.I After seasons of frustration and near misses, the boy's swim team has finally caught the elusive brass ring of victory in P.S.A.L. B division. Under the direction of second year coach Bill Weintraub, V.B.'s mermen swam through an undefeated season, culminating with their taking the city Championship title in a meet with Jackson High School at Brooklyn Col- lege. The team, with many under- classmen returning next year, looks like it may be on the way to many more victorious seasons. Eddie Ruskowskl butterflies during practice at school. 68 GIRLS' BASKETBALL This year, under the guidance of Ms. Loni Jacobson, the coach, and captains Lorraine Roelich, Lola Augo- statos, and rookie Roxanne Ouin- nones, Van Buren's Girls' Basketball Team played an aggressive defense with a fast breaking offense. Ms. Jacobson was highly enthusiastic about the team's play this season. She believes that the team finds strength in all of its players, but most noteworthy were Lorraine Roelich, who displayed fine scoring and de- fensive abilities, and veteran senior Laurie Wilson, who has come back from a knee injury to aid the team with her fine rebounding and shoot- ing. Although the team is losing a few senior players, including Captain Lola Augostatos, Ms. Jacobson is confi- dent that next year's team will be strong due to the excellence of return- ing players Sonia Augostatos, Lucy Scaccionce, Suzanne Guy, and Cynthia Cividanes.
