Stefan Regnell, Van Buren's first foreign exchange student from Swe- den, came to us in September after going through a long detailed selec- tion process. Stefan had to write essays about himself and go through a personal in- terview. He was asked questions about his knowledge of English, which he has been studying since the third grade, and his ability to get along with others. On the whole Stefan finds New York lacking because of the social conditions and municipal services. He does, however, admire our multi-eth- nic society. Stefan pointed out that there are many similarities between teenagers in the United States and Sweden. ln particular they have the same taste in rock music. His favorite groups are Santana, Pink Floyd, Emerson, Lake and Palmer and ELO. The average Saturday night is spent in much the same way as here. Not surprisingly, Stefan's opinion of American girls is not as high as his opinion of Swedish girls. Thank good- ness the boys in Van Buren like Ameri- can girls. Stefan has made many friends here at Van Buren and plans to return to America in the near future. gy, ,,,.
