OSTRIN, Principal June 1978 Graduation from high school is another milestone in your life. lt is a time when all of you must begin to make decisions that will affect the very fabric of the kind of life you will lead in the future. Your teachers have attempted to impart to you not only the formal knowledge that will serve you as the basis of your needs for either a college education or the vocational goals that you seek to pursue, but we have tried to reinforce many of the values that your parents wish to instill in you also. lt is important that you leave our school not only as an educated being but also as a person who is a responsible, thoughtful individual, capable of bearing the burdens and fustrations of freedom, and one who is able to handle the privileges of adulthood. As you leave the secure confines of Martin Van Buren High School, you will soon be faced with many problems and issues that will challenge your intelligence, stamina and even your courage. We are confident that every one of you has the ability to face the tasks that lie ahead with fortitude, determination, and an increased sense of maturity. Within the framework of your daily lives, we hope that you learn to cherish the respect of your parents, family and friends and extend to them the tolerance, understanding and patience that you expect from them.
