MORTON PERLMAN Chairman INDUSTRIAL ARTS Industrial Arts, as a school subiect, is a broad study of the materials, tools, machines, construction processes, organization, products and some of the human problems of industry with which all pupils should be acquainted. It is developed through pupil planning and constructing of proiects, discussion, observation and readings related to industry. Students taking courses in this department of M.V.B. may take any one or more of the following subiectsz Mechanical or Technical Drafting, Woodworking, Metalworking, Crafts, Transportation, Graphic Arts or Electricity. These subiects may be taken as either maior or minor credit subiects. In addition, selected Sophomores may take one year of lndus- trial Arts Science-Proiects Shop. 51 I --'W NYT I

HOME ECONOMICS The Home Economics Department offers a wide range of courses to meet the needs of every student. These include Food Preparation, Nutrition, Clothing, Home Nursing, Family Living and Child Development. These courses are designed to help the student understand her present role as a family member, relationships with others and to prepare for the future family which she will help to establish. Although girls only are enrolled in these courses, it is hoped that boys will be scheduled for them as well, for they too are family members and look forward to sharing their responsibilities of home and family living in their futures. There are special honor courses offered to girls who plan to maior in Home Economics at college and enter a wide range of highly paid and interesting iob opportunities in the eight maior fields of this course of study. Girls who plan to be social workers, nurses, early childhood specialists all find these courses excellent preparation for their future careers as well as the biggest career of all, that of homemaker in her own family. LIBRARY ln the school library all books and other materials are selected not only to provide enrichment for every subiect of the school curriculum, but also to encourage leisure time reading. A wide variety of magazines is also available. Every student is taken by the English teacher to the library during his entering term for an orientation lesson. The librarians explain the rules and procedures. All students are also taught a lesson on research techniques in the social studies classrooms by the librarians. Whenever the need for any detailed library information arises, the class goes with the teacher to the library for a lesson on this special area of knowledge. ' f r their reading and Students are urged school assignments. ln each subiect area, bibliographies are compiled for teachers. These bibliographies and other special lists are available to students for their special reading proiects. A listener's lounge where students may hear selected recordings during their free time has proven very popular. to use the school library o iq 'Uv MRS.
