Af' I .Six MR. MORRIS MILLER Chairman 1 ERN ACCOUNTING The Department of Accounting and Merchandising offers courses in two basic areas of business background and skills. The primary obiectives are to III prepare students for beginning iobs as bookkeepers, financial clerks, salesclerks, stockclerks and other related positions available in offices and stores, and I2l to develop the social and economic back- ground and concepts needed for effective service in these occupations and important in economic citizenship. Academic students who desire some background in these areas may take courses in Business Law, Accounting XH, and Merchandising. These courses are helpful to students who plan to take college courses in Accounting, Law, Distribution and Business Administration. The courses of study offered in the department include 2V2 years of Accounting, 2 years of Merchandising, I year of Law, I year of Business Arithmetic, I year of Office Machines. Extra-class activities include III sponsorship of the Law Club I2l Par- ticipation in Board of Education sponsored DECA Program IDistributive Education Clubs of Americal and Junior NOMA INationaI Office Man- agers Associationl I3l Until recently, the Commercial Honor Society has provided help for students in need of tutoring, and I4I Participation in the Federal Income Tax Instructional program. ART The Art Department offers the student a variety of courses, all of which are of practical value. Here he may enioy the thrill of creating, with the opportunity to do independent thinking and to exercise his imagination. He is given a chance to cultivate worthwhile hobbies or to prepare for a career in the field of his choice. There are many activities within the school in which the Department plays a part. Senior Show scenery, bulletin posters, and attractive dis- plays are among those to be mentioned.
