fl- yl gfvwn ., Banking Hank Ward Blue LOOKING BACK over those exciting, wonderful, nevereto-be-forgotten, FABULOUS teen years, I see many glowing memories which I REMEMBER and treasure highly. to become my I recall clearly how the PLAIN JANE from down my block grew up DREAM LOVER-how she went from BOBBY SOX TO STOCKINGS, and all in ONE NIGHT. 'X' I remember when my first test mark at Van Buren was 64. I became known as MR. R-:::' X BLUE and heard that BROKEN HEARTED MELODY. I recall now, how WONDERFUL, V WONDERFUL it was to pass the next exam in the 9O's. MY HAPPINESS made me want X to SHOUT with ioy. WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES! I also recollect what a LONELY BOY I was when my TALLAHASSEE LASSIE stomped out from my party after she found LIPSTICK ON MY COLLAR. When casually SHE SAY, SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER, I became ALL SHOOK UP. llt was Octoberl. Engraved upon my memory is the thought of how I became bold enough to ask that LITTLE GIRL from history class to the WESTERN MOVIES, and later that week how she PUT IHERI HEAD ON MY SHOULDER AT THE HOP. It was then FOR THE FIRST TIME, that I was A TEENAGER IN LOVE. X I shall never forget when I wore my WHITE SPORT COAT AND A PINK CARNATION with my BLUE SUEDE SHOES to the Junior Prom. Also, afterward, how SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT I heard the police officer say WAKE UP LITTLE SUZIE, IT'S LATE, you too, - TIGER. We must have heard iust one too many HUSHABYE. These events and many others bring back to my memory those fabulous teen years. I shall forever be MISTY, remembering those HEARTACHES BY THE NUMBER, my HIGH in HOPES and all the LAVENDER BLUE. These all bring sentimental TEARDROPS to my eyes. Dec. 23, i958-Former Vee Bees returned today to celebrate the Second Annual Alumni Day. A Christmas program including exerpts from The Messiah was presented . . . after singing for three shows, my voice cracked into many pieces. Jan. 26, i959-ln today's assembly, five foreign students discussed the basic aspects of our image abroad. The boy from England couldn't understand why we all seemed to be dressed alike, when we are free to wear whatever we choose . . . call it conformism. Feb. 24, i959-Our basketball team finally made the Garden . , . over twenty-five hundred Vee Bees crowded on the chartered buses to view the game between V. B. and Columbus H. S. It was a let-down when our team missed the basket and dropped out of the fight for the City Championship. Mar. I4, I959-At the Thirty-fifth Annual Convention of the Columbia Press Asso- ciation, The Beeline and Currents won first place . . . budding iournalists in our midst. April IO, i959-Won the first thing in my life tonight at the Twirp Dance . . . a Johnny Mathis record album. I surely thought that the swing band played much better than the Rocking Chairs, and should have stayed. May 2, 1959-Took the Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test today . . . I might have merit in some things, but I certainly won't qualify. Spent the fastest three hours in my life taking College Boards . . . think I made at least 200 . . . the terrible thing is that they count for me. June 5, i959-The Junior Prom was held in the Cafeteria . . . it was really a swingin' affair. The theme was Bali-Hai and everyone wearing leis . . . during a lindy, I was almost strangled. Oct. I2, I959-Today it was announced in Gym that until Thanksgiving we would have to go out-doors for physical activity . . . It was so cold that we had to run around the track to keep warm . . . What a horrible way to spoil the new field and ruin the girls-the emergency room was loaded with casualties. Oct. I4, i959-The N. Y. S. Scholarship Exams were given today in the auditorium and in the library lfor the lucky onesl . . . the only thing I got was a stiff neck. Oct. I6, I959-The Bohemian Ball was held in the Gym tonight . . . over nine hundred beatniks showed up . . .the Village must have been deserted. Nov. 23, 1959-The iunior class has decided to adopt a Korean orphan . . . wouldn't mind iumping into the wishing well when it's filled. Dec. 5, i959-Now my friends know how I felt in May . . . the .lune seniors took College Boards today . . . hope they got at least three hundred. Jan. l5, i960-Celebrated tonight at the January Dinner-Dance . . .Afterwards a group of us went to a night club and lived it up . . . I knew I shouIdn't have drunk so much punch. Jan. 26, i960-Finished at last! All the studying is over, and I can throw away the piles of history and English notes which are wall-papering my room . . . I'lI never take a Regents Exam again . . . thank goodness! Feb. I, I96O-The most momentous occasion in my life took place today-grad- uated from Van Buren . . . Two hundred students left that wonderful school. Where are most of them going? To college in less than a week . . . that's when we'Il really appreciate Van Buren. But regardless of destination, good luck to them all!
