The 1978 Varsity Basketball team is as follows: Back Row: Dave Luethy, Russ Whiting, Brad B1uh.m, Row 2: Craig Tank, Paul Pov- lick, Darrell Kohlmeyerg Row 3: jeff Lemke, john Brunette, Jeff Loeg Front Row: Steve Longstaff, Don Smith, Don I-Ieinen, Coach Mangels. This year's Varsity Basketball team had some good individual tal- ent and did very well at times this year. This year's team was led by Dave Luethy and Russ Whiting. Luethy, a junior, was the team's leading scorer and rebounder with around 10 points and 11 rebounds a game. Dave was second in the conference in rebounding, Whiting, a senior, was the second leading in scores and rebounds with arolmd 9 points and 8.rebounds a game. ML as a team did well taking second in conference . They shot 42M from the floor and SSM from the free throw line, averaging close to 60 points a game. Season highpoints were the victory over Notre Dame , the Class B Champs, 58-543 and the loss to St. john's, 46-45. An article on the game against St. john's was put in The Milwaukee Iournal praising the sportsmanship of the teams and the fans at Martin Luther, a fine tribute to our school. Wrestling team had the best sea- son ever for an Ml, J.V. team. The j.V. exhibition record was 10- 14- 1 , The team was led by jeff Ot- ter with a 7- 1 record. Also impressive were Dan Luedke 6-3, Marc Monreal 5-2, Mark johnson 3- 2, and Dan Luethy 4-4-2. With a large number of freshmen out for the team almost all of the weight classes were filled. Next year they should improve on J.V. and may even help the Varsity team fill some open weights. M.L. 's wrestling picture looks good.
