God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So We will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken and mormtains fall into the ocean depths 5 even if the seas roar and rage, and the hills are shaken by the violence . Psalm 46: 1- 3 1 am like an olive tree growing near the house of God, I trust in his constant love forever and ever. The Martin Luther Spartans once again had a very successful football season in 1977. All of the hard work and practice paid off for the team, although not at first. The Spartans opened the season with an 8-O nonconference loss to Dominican. In that game Dominican ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown but M.L. came back and outplayed them statistically, but could not score . From here on they played football well, win- ning six straight games. Included in those six victories were five games where M.L. 's defense totally shut out their oppo- nents, while the offense averaged 35 points a game. The win- ning streak ended against the Class B Champion St. Marys. The players gave 110W , but came up short on the scoreboard 34- 21 . Following this they also lost to University School in a close game 19-16. M.L. took third place in conference with a 4-2 record, over-all they were 6-3. A good attitude, good re- serves, and some fine seniors made the season a success. Next season hopefully will see M.L. 41. I- i 1- nn 8 Varsity Football
