The Martin Luther tennis team had a fine season again this year. It still had a lot of young players, but the entire team showed a lot of confidence and skill. The team did well in conference play. They beat Northwestern and Racine twice . A high point of the season was when the team shut out Racine , five matches to none . Curt Roeglin, CMVPJ , playing mostly doubles, led the team in wins with a record of 8-4. The most improved player was Carl Evers. The team had good leadership by Tom Cutting, jeff Torres, Bill Sodemann and Craig Haupt. M.L. took 3rd, in conference , only 9 behind St. john's with Evers taking a second place in second singles. Next year's team will be good with the loss of only 4 seniors . A few j.V. matches were played and the talent looks good for next year. The Martin Luther baseball team had a fine season in the Midwest Prep. They finished with a 7-4 con- ference record. They were led in batting by Paul Povlick batting .419 with 14 RBl's. In pitching they were led by Povlick, Dean Weil, and john Gelhardt. There were home runs by Povlick, Dave Alfrey and jeff Otter. The team had fun and did well against some tough teams, Next year should be just as good with some fine jlmiors returning.
