We're number one! After many long hours of practice and hard fought games, this year's J. V. football team took the con- ference championship. They had a 5-O conference record going into their final game for the championship. The entire sea- son was on the line as they went up against a tough University team. It was an exciting, close game with our team taking the I. V. title on a 28-26 victory. The coaches were pleased with the excellent freshman players and had the help of some strong returning sophomores. Over-all it was a great season. The 1976 1. V. Football team is as follows: FRONT ROW: Rick jahnke, Jeff Lofh, jeff Kossow, Dave Schuldt, Scott Perko, Dean Kennedy, jeff Loe, Daryl Kohlmeyer, jim Kuchler. SECOND ROW: Mike Kadolph, Dave Ladwig, Chuck Dulde, Daryl Huck, Jeff Otter, Scott Haupt, jim Povlick, Bob Duchow, Dean Weil. THIRD ROW: Mike Valleskey, Gregg Bartrom, Don Freyberg, jeff Lemke, Rick Barwa, Gary Stelse, Ted Heise, Mike Gilhuber, Randy Chiaverotti. FOURTH ROW: Al Hafeman, Bob Chris- tiansen, Mark Harr, Dave Skorzewski, Jim Barndt, jim Lamm, Dan Kanitz, Kevin Ma- jors. FIFTH ROW: Gary Martens, Jeff jagusch, Kevin Mueller, Steve White, Dave Sheedy, Don Leifer, Bob Sanders, Curt Roe- glin. ROW 3: jim Sierszyn, john Brunette, Dave Luethy, Carl Evers, Jeff -Iuds, Randy Block, Steve Mar- tens. BACK ROW: Coach Richter, Karl Rose, Tim Gieschen, Dave Al- fery, Dave Hartel, Tim Kelley, Craig Haupt, Coach Schneider, Dave Kaphingst, Ed Billyard. M.. The 1976 Varsity football team had a great season this year. With a 5-1 conference record they took second place. They had a rough time at first, losing 3 out of 4 games. Then because of a knee injury M.I.. lost Jim Dahl, a potential All-Conference lineman. Injuries like these hurt the team, but the players pulled together and won 4 out of the next 5 games. In two of these games, Racine and St. John's M. L. made surprising second half come- backs for victories. Next came the game against St. Mary's, a game that would decide both the Midwest Prep Championship and a chance for the Class B title. St. Mary's played a good game beating us 17-0, and later went on to take the Class B title. At the beginning of the season Coach Schneider had said that this would be the year to win the Class B Championship- we came very close. Craig Oswald, Ron Bauch, Dave Monreal, and Dave Hartel were picked as All-Conference players. Varsity Football 93
