In conference, ML finished tied for 2nd with a 9-3 record. Leading the Spartans was all-conference Tom Reyna. For the second year Tom led the team in scoring f15.6 ptsfgamej and in rebounding f12.4 reb!gameJ . Darrell Deopke was second team all-conference and a major contribution in the team's success. Darrell was the second leading scorer with an average of 11 .7 points per game . Two other sen- iors, Bill Rose and Mike Moldenhauer completed their high school basketball careers with fine performances. Highlights of the season would include the exciting 64- 62 victory over St. Mary's for our first conference win, our 53-52 win over Franklin on Doepke 's last second shot, and our overall second place finish in the Mid-West Prep Conference. This year's Cross Country team did well this season. Led by some strong individual runners, they were a top contender in conference. With victories over Wayland, St. Mary's, and St. Iohn's, they were well prepared for the conference meet. There they placed second behind a tough University team. From there they went on to state and finished ninth in Class B. This year's top runner was Paul Brant. His average time was 17:11 and his best time was 16:41. With his 13 firsts Paul lead the team to many victories. Senior Mike Lupo was the number 2 runner with an average time of 17:565 his best time was 17:01. Mike was a consistent top finisher with 5 seconds and 7 thirds. The number 3 runner was Steve Longstaff with a 17:58 average and a 17:28 best time. The 4th and Sth place runners were Seniors Darrell Doepke and Bill Rose averaging 18:18 and 18:50. 3 7 w if ' 4 The 1976 Cross Country team is as follows: 1.Mike Buchman 2. Howard Hughes 3.
