The first game was a really tough one, When the Mighty Warriors played Addison. Addison just barely pulled through, With seven points from a big boo-boo . The next week the Warriors played Curry, And that game was over in no big hurry. The Warriors really fought that night, As they lost the war but won the fight. The Warriors went to Oakman for a wildcat hunt, Boy, you should have heard those Wildcats grunt. The Warriors brought home a lot of meat, As Oakman suffered a big defeat. Next was the big game of the year, With Parrish as everyone was soon to hear. The Warriors were ready and willing to play, And all that hot air just vanished away. The trip to West Jefferson was a big let down, As the Warriors stumbled onto the ground . The homecoming game was set for this week, And the team for the game was the Tigers from Meek. Mullens was hurt in this big game , Then the mighty Warrior, Larry Key went into fame. The Warriors pulled through with a big victory , And the Warrior fans were happy with glee. Cold Springs came to Warrior Country, And left them with a record of 4-3. The Warriors traveled to Lynn that week , And showed the Bears they couldn't be beat . The County's Top Scorer was taken by David Key, With 61 points so far, yippee! The next opponent the Warriors would meet, Would be Berry at home that week. The Warriors last game at home for the year, Brought a saddened heart and a happy tear. The Warriors defeated the Berry team, And all the Seniors had a certain gleam. The Warriors ended the season 69-0, As they played West Birmingham Christian, ya know. The season ended as all things do, With most points scored and fewest points allowed , yah-hoo. David Key won the County's Top Scorer, With 96 points, good going ole boy. The coaches were happy as they yelled to their boys: Go Williams, and Henderson and Mason and Stevens, You Keys and Lollar, Cornelius and Kelley, Blackwell and Perkins. Cause they are our Seniors those wonderful boys. The year of nineteen and seventy-five, Was one great year for all of the guys. Continued good luck through all the years, So we can be happy and boost you with cheers. Karen Key Written for the 1975-'76 Football banquet for Martin High School. ADDISON The Martin Warriors opened their 1975 football season against the Bulldogs of Addison. A spirited Warrior defense held the opponents scoreless in the first half, however Addi- son managed a touchdown late in the third quarter and went ahead '7-0. Martin came storming back and began a drive late in the fourth quarter with Richard Mullen connecting with Mike Mason on a 57 yard pass play which took the ball down to the Addison 3 . However, the Warriors were unable to take it in from there. Addison then took over and ran the clock down ending a very exciting game with the final score 0-7 . MAR TIN Vs. CURRY The Curry Yellow Jackets overcame a savage Warrio onslaught as Curry stung the Warriors, 14-6, before som 1,600 fans at Martin. Martin started the game by kicking of to Curry and the Warriors quickly forced the Jackets to pun after three plays netted no gain. Martin's Danny Henderson returned the punt 19 yards to midfield, and on the first play from scrimmage, he darted 14 yards to the Curry 36. How- ever, on the next play, Curry recovered a Martin fumble, but again were forced'to punt. Five plays later Martin moved to a first down at the Curry 45. After a touchdown run by Henderson was nullified by a motion penalty at that point, David Key bolted his way to the 39. Warrior quarterback Richard Mullen then fired a strike to Colin Kelley to put Martin on top 6-0. Curry came back and tied the game 6- at intermission. Curry then came on strong to keep' the lea and Martin lost its second game of the season 6-14. ing. F 1 tg . ,:i5EQ1,2L .. is rx MARTIN MAR TIN Vs. Vs. DAKMAN The Warriors finally found the range to the end zone in their 3rd game of the season against the Oakman Wildcats. The Warriors received the opening kickoff and returned to their own 28 where they began a '72 yard scoring march with Danny Henderson bursting into the end zone from 5 yards out. However, Martin fumbled at their own 37 late in the quarter and the Wildcats took 7 plays to knot the score 6-6. The Warriors then struck with lightning-like force in the 2nd quarter, with David Key scoring on a 15 yard run and Richard Mullen connecting with Mike Mason for another 15 yard touchdown to build a 22-6 halftime lead. Following inter- mission Danny scored on a 5 yard run, the PAT try was no good and the final score was Martin 28-Oakman 6 . PARRISH The onrushing Warriors knocked off arch rival Parrish with a 14-6 victory behind a timely offense and a determined defense. On its second possession of the game Martin marched 86 yards in 14 plays with Tim Alexander scoring on a 15 yard run to take a 6-0 lead. The Tornadoes then came storming back and scored, leaving the game tied 6-6 at half- time. Hard-knocking defense dominated most of the 3rd quarter before David Key capped an 83 yard drive with a 15 yard touchdown and Danny Henderson ran the 2-point con- version. Neither team scored in the 4th quarter leaving the final score MARTIN 14 - PARRISH 6. Coach Craven summed up the game by saying, . . . the difference seemed to be the boys really wanted this one. MAR TIN Vs. WE9 T JEFFERSON Turnovers and an inspired pack of West Jefferson Tigers caused the Martin Warriors to stumble to their third loss of the season, 16-8. Only a seven yard run on the final play of the game by David Key prevented the mistake-prone Warri- ors from being shutout. Key also ran the two-point conversion to account for Martin's points. After a scoreless first quarter, West Jefferson drove 40 yards in five plays to take an 8-0 lead with just 28 seconds left in the half. Following intermission, Martin fumbled away two scoring opportunities in the third quarter and West Jefferson drove '78 yards following the sec- ond costly Warrior turnover for its winning touchdown with 8:47 left in the game. The drive took 12 plays. The loss ended a two-game winning streak for Martin. MAR TIN Vs. MEEK Homecoming 1975 was against Meek and Martin cele- brated it by whipping the Tigers 34-6. Three minutes later Steve Henderson crashed in from the 5 and Danny Henderson ran the 2- point conversion to put the Warri- ors on top at halftime 16-0 . During the 3rd quarter Gary Key scored on a 77 yard run and Tim Alexander returned a Meek punt 40 yards for a touchdown to give the Warriors a 28-6 lead. Meek avoided a shutout by scoring in the final period, but David Key came right back with his second touchdown of the night to make the final score MARTIN 34 - MEEK 6. The victory evened Martin's record at 3-3 . MARTIN vs. COLD SPRINGS The high-spirited Martin Warriors recorded their first shut- out of the season by routing Cold Springs 45-0. Gary Key then scored on a 40 yard run and Larry Key passed to Mike Mason for the two-point conversion to give Martin a 16-0 halftime lead. Lynn roared back at the onset of the third quarter for its 8 points. Danny Henderson ran the two- point conversion to end the scoring with the final score 30-8 . MAR TIN Vs. BERRY After a very impressive win over Lynn the preceding week, the high-flying Warriors made it 4 in a row with a victory over Berry. With all this talk about atomic bombs, missiles, Angola, the heartbreak of psoriasis, etc. , I am hesitant to predict the future c the class of '76 , but maybe we can straighten things out. Colin Kelley will become President of the United States . . . but only when the system of the popular vote becomes obsolete Elizabeth Whitten will become the first woman president . . . of New Guinea. Not long afterwards there will be a great migra tion from New Guinea to Nigeria. Gwin Arnold will become the star of the terrifying motion picture BROKEN JAWS. Grove Thomas will create a miracle of a sandwich, the Bogie-Wogie Hoagie . . . one bite and you can't sit still. Speaking miracles, Mike Mason's body will finally catch with his feet. Rose Sanford will set the house on fire at Madison Square Gardenl with her tap-dancing act . . . she tapped on a match. Greg Key will buy a new car that shares his bad habits. They botl smoke, drink, and have a hard time getting started in the mornings. Jimmy Williams will get a degree in psychologically self oriented mental disorders . . . after all he's always been an expert. Rita Thacker, another medically-minded person, wil become a registered nurse . . . SOIIY-I0-Say she forgot to register for medicine. Debbie Gravette will become a wealthy pharl macist and develop a cure for polystetophymaside , but later finds there is no such disease . . . but not to worry, she invents the disease for the cure. In my crystal ball I can see another rich person. It is Billy Millwood, the well-known oil millionaire . . corn oil, that is. The Grooms' twins will each start a new fad: Linda, in women's fashionsg Brenda, in cookery. Linda believe that clothes should be natural . . . such as grape-vine smocks and turnip green jeans. Brenda believes that food should stand ou when you taste it . . . like sea-sand soup, mustard-meal mash, and cracked chicken. One day you might see someone working away at a car motor and covered in grease . . . but if you get a glimpse of red on top, you'll know you've found Albert Black- well. Patsy Morrow will open a coffee shop on Hatt Hill and call it Hat-a-Cup. Bill Lollar will finally be recognized as 2 great flyer . . . one day he will go hill-jumping on his motorcycle and find out he is going the wrong way when his bike goe: off and leaves him flying in mid-air. Karen Key will become a famous portrait painter, since she is the only one who paint: portraits of people from outer space. Larry Key will become the lead drummer, after ten years, of the Philharmonic Orchestr he created so he could be lead drummer. Barbara Sadberry will become a famous grower of roses . . . after a few years sh discovers that life is not a bed of roses when she finds a petunia growing in her flower beds. Scot Tree Sanford will follow i . the footsteps of Dave DeBUSHer. Christy Rosser will become a translator for the UN and get everyone so confused that they'll have to get a translator to translate her translation. Mike Yielding will take over a beauty salon in downtown Jasper and then forget where it is. David Key will experience a sudden spurt of growth and become the tenth Wilt Chamberlain . . . a lon time fron now. Denise Mills, while working on her atomic-polarized sub-energy solar-lunar missile, will blow up half th European continent . . . but never fear, Vickie Key is there ready to sew the pieces back together . . . a small problem occurs when she gets Switzerland too close to the Equator and the Alps melt. Dennis Stevens steps in to solve this problem by mending the damage with indoor-outdoor carpet. Danny Henderson will sign up for the Kansas City Chiefs and after a week will be traded to the Bay City Rollers because his notes fly faster than his feet. Terry Perkins will become president of Maxwell House Coffee the first day on the job and become known as lnstant Perk. David McBride will start a new company known as Rattles- nake Distillery . . . he then loses his patent for distilled rattlesnakes. There are some travelers in this group, my crystal ball tells me. Norman Dunn went to Hiroshima for a year and when he got back became known as the Beat Ten Bombshell. Phyllis Perry will open a horse ranch in Cuckooland, Australia, and win the 1999 Cuckoo Derby. Jeff O'Rear, after yearning for the warm blue Pacific Ocean will move to California to get closer to the o'front. Sheila Perry will move to Snail City, Siberia, and become known as Super-Speed the Typist. Even though my predictions are 99.99070 accurate, I wouldn't believe any of the above. By the way, I think we'll lose the war in Vietnam and Richard Nixon will resign.
