Swan Song 1'XVhcn Swans perceive approaching death they sing more merrily than before, because of the joy they have in going to the God they servef, The Pliaedo-Socrates. This 1960 Volume of La Pimlmyrz serves as my swan song. for I have sponsored it since 1938, which is before any of you were horn. Since it is my last book, I selected as the theme: lzcfzuty, hotli of the world around us and of memorable Words. Our cover features a kodacrome of a pitalmya plant in bloom, taken hy Nick Sanchez, and to him we say, i'Graeias, Mr. Sanehezf, Our division pages were the work of Victor Villarreal, whose artistic talent may flower and he may grow into a really outstanding artist. In selecting quotations for our division pages we should like to point out that hrave words of famous men-Bryant, Shelley, Pope, Shakes- peare-often stand us in good stead, serve a very practical purpose we face the crisis of life. Put your mind in tune with great thoughts, and you will he influenced hy great thoughts yourself, which may in the end perfect them- selves in worthy deeds. For the future may you enjoy this hook, recalling the happy days you spent in M.H.S. and may the La Pitalmya continue to prosper under the guidance of new and younger hands. Sincerely, Elizabeth Sorrell fr X we K 'N
