She attended Brackenridge High School, and after graduation she entered Our Lady oi the Lake Col- lege, where she received a B.S. degree in Physical Education. She started her teaching career at Mac- Donnell, where she taught for one year. She then was transferred to Christen, and after four years she became physical education instructor at Martin High School. During the war she acted as program aid at the U. S. O. She sponsors the Pep Squad, Cheerleaders. Student Council, and is the chairman of the Iunior-Senior Prom. She belongs to the Delta Kappa Gamma. We dedicate our 1949 edition of La Pitaha'ya to Miss Ruth Young for her invaluable service to the school. IN MEMDR RANDOLPH LAWRENCE DaCAMARA - 1905-1948 Randolph Lawrence DaCamara was born Ian. 4. 1905 in Corpus Christi, Texas. When he was two months old, he came to Laredo with his parents to make his home. He attended t.he Laredo Public Schools and graduated from Laredo High School in 1923. While he was in high school, he was a lettennan in football, baseba1L and track, and a member of the Thomas Edison Club. In 1923-24 he returned to high school and took post graduate work. From 1924 to 1928 he attended Rice Institute. Here he lettered in football and was an outstanding pitcher on the baseball team. He signed up to play ball with the Cin- cinnati Reds, but due to an iniury he received in his last college baseball game, which required an operation on his arm, he was unable to fulfill his contract. He received his degree of Bachelor of Science from Rice Institute in 1928, and then spent a year at the Dodge Factory in Detroit in the Dodge training school. In 1930 he went to Mexico City to take a position with t.he Dodge Agency. Two years later he returned to Laredo and became asso- ciated with the Laredo Public Schools. He left the school business in 1932, to become a supervisor with the Gulf Oil Company. ln 1936 he returned to the Laredo Public Schools and was elementary supervisor in 1938. He re- mained in that capacity until 1946 when he was named principal of Martin High School, which position he held at the time of his death. Mr. DaCamara was a member of the Lions Club and had a perfect attendance record for five years. He was treasurer of the organization from 1943 till the time of death. He was also treasurer of the Border Olympics from 1946 to 1948. He was a member of St. Peter's Men's Club and a life member of the Texas State Teachers Association.
