VIR. I. W. NIXON SUPERINTENDENT LAREDO PUBLIC SCHOOLS Plans are complete for the removing and re-modeling of the buildings. This proiect will get started, and the buildings will be ready for the opening ot school. September, 1949. The Laredo Independent School District also received title to twenty-eight acres of land and six build- ings, the former Officers' Club of LAAF. This site will be used for the residents ot MacMillan Park and other sections ot the city bordering the northern extremities ol Laredo.

MR. ELMO LOW Mr. Low was appointed principal on luly 15, 1948. Mr. Low was born in Winters, Texas. He graduated from Winters High and later attended Hardin-Simmons University at Abilene, Texas. 1 After receiving his degree from Hardin-Simmons, he completed one year of gradu- ate work at Texas Tech. He taught at Mason, Texas and served as principal at San- derson, Texas. in 1935, Mr. Low was appointed band director of Martin High, a position he held until 1941. Mr. Low became the Red Cross First Aid, Water Safety, and Accident Prevention special field representative for the 17 Midwestern states and served in this capacity from 1941-1947. He returned to Martin High as band director in 1947 and led the group to the only first division rating awarded to a Class A band in the marching festival of the Battle of Flowers.
