He serves on the board as secretary. Mr. Ernest Leyendecker, school auditor, arrives at M.H.S. nearly every morn- ning at 10-30 for his cup of coffee in the cafeteria. Mr. Antonio Vails, Webb county agriculturist, is the father of our school regis- trar. Miss Antonia Vails. Mr. B. G. Salinas, taken at his adding machine in the County Tax Collector ' s office, serves as vice-presi- dent of the board. Mr. Leon Daiches, owner of Daiches Jewelry Company, was photographed seated in his comfortable home on Mata- moros Street. Mr. C. L. Milton, who is own- er of the Milton Jewelry Com- pany, is due an apology by the staff because after four tries, we still could not take a picture which does him justice.

I peice. to me I MR. J. W. NIXON, Principal Mr. Nixon was reared in West Texas. He attended Allen Academy, The University of Texas, and Sul Ross State Teacher ' s College from which he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He played varsity football while attending the University of Texas, lettering at a tackle position on the Longhorn teams of 1928 and 1929. While attending the University of Texas, he served as assistant instructor in the Physical Training Department. Coming to Laredo in 1929, as a supervisor of physical education in the grades, he became principal of L. J. Christen Junior High School. In the summer of 1941, he was appointed prin- cipal of Martin High School. Owning a ranch near Laredo, Mr. Nixon raises registered cattle. His hobby is deer hunt- ing. Vitally interested in athletics and youth building, Mr. Nixon enjoys being of service to the community.
