Oh-hy-hee, oh-hy-hee-how-huh! 77 THE CLASS OF 1981 ■ - 78 AREN ' T WE CUTE? CLASS HISTORY Back in September of 77, we entered the M.V.R.H.S. and began our four-year fight through high school. We were all scared at first, but it didn ' t take us long to get acclimated, and find out that all those stories about seniors doing things to freshmen weren ' t true. We started off on the right foot with class advisors Gregory Joannidi and Margaret Harris, and class officers Sheila McHugh, Sonya Lima, Patricia McCarthy and Lisa Costa. We began fund raisers like bake sales, rummage sales, and our biggest money raiser, selling hot dogs at the annual road race. Mr. and Miss Freshman were Sheila McHugh and Frederick Fragosa. And who could forget English with Mr. Herr and the duck that lied, cried, and then died. In our Sophomore year we became more relaxed and felt more like a part of the school. We made more new friends and participated in more of the extra curricular activities. There was a change in class advisors and officers; Mrs. Harris remained, but we lost Mr. loannidi and gained Mr. Richard Hubner. Class officers were Laurie Wendell, Sonya Lima, Patricia McCarthy and Sheila McHugh. Still low on cash, and not too successful with bake sales and raffles, we managed to have a successful dance with the Grolsch Brothers at the Tisbury gym. Why the Tisbury gym? You all remember the asbestos crisis; going to school in the Tisbury Elementary School from 1:30 to 7:00. Mr. and Miss Sopho¬ more were Jerilyn Cleary and Frederick Fragosa. As we entered our third year as Juniors or upperclassmen,” we also encountered American Heritage with Mr. Thomas. We did a lot of praying that year, but somehow we all passed. Then came the prom. The tradition was bro¬ ken, and the prom was to be held at the Hot Tin Roof instead of the Harbor View. It was one of the best proms. Our prom theme was Dreams.” Prom Queen was Donna Wilson, escorted by Joel Anthony; her court was Laurie Scott, Jerilyn Cleary, Leslie MacKay, Elizabeth McElhinney, Lisa Giannettino and Theresa Francis. We gained back those two favorites for class advisors Joe and Marge. Class Officers were Stephanie Tilton, Lisa Costa,Patricia McCarthy, Diana Burt and Kimberly Gibson. Mr. and Miss Junior were Patricia McCarthy and Frederick Fragosa. 80 We began our Senior year in debt, still owing for our Junior prom. This was to be our best year, also the busiest one. There were parties, sports, and of course taking SAT ' s, ordering announcements, filling out college applications, and taking our Senior pictures. Our class seemed to have a lot of school spirit this year; we won the Christmas contest for decorating the best wall of the cafeteria, and we also won a cheering contest at one of the pep rallies. We were all lead by John Hilton with the cheers of 81-81-81. Winning these two events brought us out of debt. Another event that raised money for us was the night of skating at the rink; aside from selling the tickets to skate, we sold hot dogs and cocoa. We would like to thank Marge ' s husband Jamie for all his help. Halloween there was an assembly; there were costumes ranging from Big Bird to the Incredible Hulk. And who was that seven foot Frankenstein? The best part of the assembly was the strip-tease act of Jeffrey (Roxanne) Voorhees and Tommy (The Cheerleader) Hughes. Roxanne, of course, won first prize. (She promised all the Judges a date). We have managed to survive our four years here even with all its changes. A new principal, a new addition, a new discipline code, and tbat wonderful proposition 2Vi. It is a good thing we are graduating from this Comprehensive High School before it goes into effect. Our class officers were Patricia McCarthy, Lisa Packish, Lisa Costa, Diana Burt, and Kimberly Gibson. Mr. and Miss Senior were Frederick Fragosa and Wanda Moreis. As graduation nears we must all move on and decide on our futures. We will never forget the four good years we had at M.V.R.H.S. or the friendships we gained. We were the class they all were waiting for, and we will be greatly missed. Although he had many friends and family, he was alone. Alone with his dreams. His dreams were not of fortune or fame, but of simple things like good friends and good times, and music. He dreamed of having a good life. And his were not idle dreams, his dreams were the ones that really soar. He loved his job, from what I gathered; and he didn ' t mind hard work. He loved his car, his music, and fooling around. He loved his friends, and his parties, and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. And his room was so full of fun and life. We had so many good times there. Yes, I remember it well. But it ' s empty now, no friendly face to greet me, no music coming from within. I look around and find no trace of him. So far I ' ve gone not once, but several times finding no life, no music. I will never forget Duncan. And now, well, now Duncan is free, free as a bird.
