I0 ----4 -.m.-mt.-gn1m1 au..u-un.1lu -i--u--- CLASS PROPHECY Upon returning home from a trip abroad I picked up a newspaper and on leafing through it I saw in big black letters, 'JOHNSON MODELS. After reading a little further I discovered that the Powers Models had been taken over by a young couple from Iowa. It seems that jane johnson had applied as a model and had gained fame so quickly she took over the company. The article said she attributed her beauty to being raised on a farm in Iowa. An idea struck me and I woadered if it could be the same jane that went to school with me, and when I looked her up I discovered her to be the very same. Of course when we started talking about old times we decided to inquire around and find out where all our old schoolmates were. jane knew that Dorothy Wilson was working in a Veteran's hospital in Chicago so we started out. After a few inquiries we found that Dorothy was a registered nurse now and very well liked by all the sailors. After feeling a few pulses and bidding some a short good-bye she We went straight to Des Moines and found that much a-buzz about the boys Basketball tournament be going on then. We decided to spend the evening To our surprise we found that Martensdale had won round and was playing a little town called Monona Iowa. We saw an old bent-over man take his place joined us. everyone there was which happened to watching the finals. its way to the final located in northern on the Martensdale bench. We finally decided he must be the coach and looking on the program we found his name to be Mr. Cramer and sitting beside him with a new lapel pin on her jacket was Mrs. Cramer. Ah! Now Monona's team came out on the floor. We found their coach to be none other than Robert Wiedmann, and there was a little lady sitting beside him who was none other than our old schoolmate, Marilyn Hunget, now Mrs. Robert Wiedmann. We later found out that their team was composed mostly of their own children which made a very good team. We won't say who won, but both teams tried to use the same plays. Mr. Cramer told us we could find several more of our classmates in Martensdale so we started out in two cars. We were soon lost when we entered Martensdale which had grown to be quite a large town. We decided to ask our way to the Fix Up at B and j's Shop. We entered and found William Crow running a very successful Barber shop and jean Brownlie was an expert beauty operator there. William and jean had gone through Beauty Culture school together but they were not married yet. People said William just hadn't got up enough courage to ask her yet. Faune, but no longer Maxwell, wired that she had just gained entrance to Dorsey's famous orchestra and that she found Edith Hendrickson was playing the drums and also instructing a few jitterbug classes on the side line. As soon as we found that out we wired for them to come immedi- ately. William and jean told us that Rose Ann Emerson McNeer was on a farm near Martensdale, so we gathered there and had a real party. We had a swell time, in spite of the fact that Rose Ann had a hard time keeping her little son in bed. 4' III 11111111 - 1 -u1un1uu 111111111-1 in as ll .-...-.................,.-...........-..-....-...........-...-..-..-..-..-.......,-.-...-....-...-.-......-..-..-..-........-..-.....-......-.-4. . A steady improvement was made throughout the season, and the boys hit their stride in the county tournament, where they defeated Liberty Center, who had de- feated them twice in the earlier part of the season, and went on to win over Hartford, displaying some of the finest basketball playing seen in the tournament. Their two victories qualified them for the finals. where they were defeated by Norwalk by a score of 25-12. Composing the starting lineup in the majority of the games were: one senior, Wie-dmzn.i: one junior, Sinn, and three sophomores, Kleymunn, Newell, and Crawford. However, Campbell and Brown, both juniors, saw a good deal of action in the latter part of the season. BOYS' BASKETBALL RECORD M. H. S. 12 Carlisle 13 M. H. S. 24 Patterson 21 M.H. Most of us were in the prologue entitled. The Blind Boy of Bethlehem , which preceded the pageant. We especially want to thank our mothers for their very generous help in making our costumes, without which the program could not have been a success. Of course. we have had many units throughout the year. One of the most interesting was a leaf unit. during which we collected specimens of the leaves of the various kinds of trees and made spatter work pictures of them. We had a story unit during which we read many of the old tales and legends. We found and made pictures and wrote stories of our old story book friends. We culminated the activity by collecting all of our stories and pictures into a book. During our home unit last fall we painted our house and farm as well as some of our room furniture. We then made rugs and furniture for our play house. For the first time this year. we have a primary as well as first and second grades. There are thirteen boys and girls in this primary class. We believe that this program has been very successful and should be continued. We wonder where John Connors gets his permanents. We wonder how Gerald Crawford got stuck during the county tournaments at Indianola. What happened, Red? We wonder why everyone was tired after Phil Bussanmas' birthday party. We wonder why Faune Maxwell never goes home when the roads are muddy. We wonder why the seventh and eighth graders were angry when the Freshman girls beat them in the class tournaments. It couldn't have been because of the referees! We wonder why Marilyn I-Iunget's arms are always black and blue. Ain't love grand ! ! ! We wonder what is so interesting at Norwalk.. Maybe Phyllis Berry and Margaret Wood would know. We wonder what is so interesting outside during Luther League meetings on Sunday nights. Is it the moon, Merlyn? We wonder why William Crow would like to be a Freshman again. It couldn't be a Freshman girl, could it? We wonder why Faye Stroud goes walking every Sunday. Is it because of the cars that are in town then, Faye? We wonder why Phyllis Strable wouldn't take Merlyn Sinn's candy kisses. She told him that she didn't like that kind ! l l ! l l We wonder why Rose Ann Emerson wants school out so quickly. We wonder why the junior girls always get sick in Physics Class. We wonder why Mr. Brom came back. Was it to see the school? We wonder who has been writing Jean Brownlie those post cards. We wonder why Phyllis Berry remembers dates, especially Friday night, April 20th, 1945. We don't wonder why Mirney Martens ordered two graduation pictures. We wonder why Phyllis Strable goes home by the alleys. Isn't trying to dodge her many boy friends, is she? We wonder where William Crow got such a high opinion of himself. We wonder why Mary Edith Annett has so much love for the Norwalk girls, also the doors. We wonder why Rose Ann Emerson is always buying dishes. We wonder why Edith Hendrickson won't let her mother read her letters. We wonder why Jane Spick said she would fail in all her tests if a certain guy got an extension on his leave. We wonder how Mr. Cramer got the idea that Mrs. Cramer wanted a lapel pin. Maybe two senior girls would know something about it. We wonder why jean Brownlie wanted to go to Winterset for ads. We wonder if Mr. Landess ever found Anna Mae's Dad's handkerchief. We hear his face was pretty red when she asked him ! l I We wonder why Dorothy Wilson gets called Winter . It couldn't be because of the song, Winter Wonder Land , could it? We wonder what hour Faune Maxwell thinks is proper to get home after a date. Wewonder??????
