The Martensdale boys, lacking in height, made up for that shortcoming with plenty of pep and team work. Only two reserve letter winners, Milliran, a senior, and Wiedmann, a junior, remained from last year's squad. The playing experience of the halanre of the squad was very limited. The squad of fourteen included three seniors, one junior, five sophomores, and five freshmen. Considering their inexperienee and lark of size the team made a creditable showing ending with a record of Owins and 12losses. The lineup most of the season found Millican and Dooley at forward, Kleymann or Sinn at center, Wiedmann and Del-leek at guards. Highlight of the season was one game with Norwalk at Indianola, Norwalk defeated the boys 20 to 15 and went on to win the County Championship. BOYS' BASKETBALL RECORD M.H.S. 2l Milo 38 M. Ten High School girls answered the first call for basketball. This group included two letter winners, Luella Jarman and Rachel Martens. Five girls, Betty Eagan, Mary Annett, Phyllis Berry, Faune Maxwell, and Jean Brownlie were on the squad last year and three freshmen, Ruth Hewitt, Anna Miller, and Dorothy Wiedmann, were out for the first time. Edith Fulkerson who transferred from Cincinnati also was on the squad. Thirteen Junior High School girls were invited to try out for the team. The rules of the Iowa High School Athletic Union state that girls below fifteen years of age may play in High School games, receive a letter, and still be allowed to play four years in High School. The girls showed a lot of improvement before the season was over. However a lack of experience and a series of illnesses handicappd the team in a number of games with the record for the year showing 4 wins and 15 losses. Luella Jarman was the leading scorer with 240 points altho she did not play in three games. Ruth Hewitt, a freshman, made 73 points altho she did not play in three games, either. Seniors on the squad are Betty Eagan, Rachel Martens, and Luella Jarman. GIRLS' BASKETBALL RECORD M. H. S. 11 Milo 49 M. H. S. 32 Milo 39 M. H. S. 18 Spring Hill 42 M. H. S. 31 Patterson 24 M. H.
