Seymour, Mc-Connell, Allen, Martens Absent: Ralph Sprague SOPHOMORE CLASS NEWS The Sophomore Class started their second year of high school with 16 members. Esther Brown who entered from Cumming and Clarence Dooley from Dowling High in Des Moines were two new- comers. Two other members, Ralph Sprague and Elnora Rothweiler, left us during the year. On September 18, we had our first class meeting to elect officers. Those elected were: Jane Deheck, president, Melvin Martens, vice president, Mary E. Hakes, secretary-treasurer, Ruby Shafar, class reporter. We enjoyed two class parties, one each semester, with our sponsor, Miss Mackin. Several boys and girls of our class went out for basketball, kittenball, and baseball this year. There were four girls and two boys who went out for the band. Gallagher, Cassady, Mr. Kirchdoerfer tSponsorJ Front Row: Fisher, Fryer, Strahan, Reeves, Murphy, Hill JUNIOR CLASS NEWS The Junior Class started their third year of high school with 17 members. We gained one new member, Charlotte Crawford, of Melcher, on March 5. On September 18, we had our first class meeting to elect class officers. Those elected were: Gene Fisher, president, Lowell Strahan, vice president, Armina Gallagher, secretary and treasurerg Edna Marie Evans, class reporter. On November 15, the class presented a three-act play entitled, The Obstinate Bride, which netted about 338. This amount was not sufficient for the annual Junior-Senior Banquet, and on February 20, we had an oyster supper in an effort to get additional funds for the banquet which will be held at Mrs. Doty's Tea Room in Des Moines May 9. The members of the class were interested in many activities of the school. Georgia Bussanmas was a letter winner in declamatory. Most of the boys and girls went out for basketball but we will have only a few letter winners. Those in the class who are in the band are Dorothy Brownlie, Norma Michael, lla Maxwell, Lowell Strahan, Lyle Reeves and Gene Fisher. There will be some who will receive scholarship letters. We enjoyed two class parties, one each semester, with our sponsor, Mr. Kirchdoerfer. C173

Seven of those attended the Martensdale school last year. They are Max Beam, Robert Hyland, Dorothy Reinholdt, Iona Miller, Irene Seymour, Henry Wonderlin, Gene Weil. Newcomers to our class were Lois Hendrickson, Betty Kellogg, Helen Cassady, Mary Catherine Dooley, Betty Shepherd, Jeanne Brown, Eileen Simpson, Francis Kelly, John Spick, Gerald Wilson. Ada Brown joined us in November and Don Stewart enrolled in March. Eileen Simpson moved away in February. We had two parties. The first was a theater party in Des Moines, and the second was at the schoolhouse. In the class tournament the Freshman boys and girls didn't win a game. The Freshmen who are in the band are: Ada Brown, drum majorette, Bob Hyland, bass drum, Max Beam, snare drum, Francis Kelly, trumpet, Gerald Wilson, saxophone, Jeanne Brown, trombone, Henry Wonderlin, saxophone.
