Leo f Sinn was our class president and Miss Lusk was chosen to be our I sponsor. At the end of the year we lost Rolla Hendrickson, Robert If Lose, Ruth Shepherd, Jack Evans, Theresa McKinney and John : Kelleher. 1 f I In our Sophomore year we chose Miss Gowdey as our sponsor. I Dorothy Smith left us at the end of the year. This year Leo Sinn was I again president and Philip Jones was vice president. i In our Junior year Theresa McKinney returned to leave us at 1 the end of the year. Betty Seymour also joined to leave at the end 1 of the year. Our class play, Kicked Out of College, was presented I. on December 13. We edited the Junior edition of the paper. On May 1 11, 1939, we entertained the seniors at a banquet at Younkers Tea 1 Room. I I We started our last year with 19 seniors. Due to the tragic i death of Philip Jones, our class was reduced to 18 members. John s Morgan soon joined us from Indianola, making us 19 in members l again. We enjoyed three class parties with our class sponsor, Mr. l Cramer. We edited one edition of the school paper and presented I the twelfth annual Martin's Tale. Our class play, Marrying Mar- 1 garet, was given April 17. We were entertained by the Junior Class 1 on May 9 at Mrs. Doty's Tea Room. On May 6 the Seniors will have I their Sneak Day. It was Ralph Weaver, prominent movie director of the late '40's. Ralph told me to meet him at the airport the next morning and we would take a trip and look up our old classmates. Early the next morning we landed in Chicago and the manager rushed out to meet us. To our surprise it was Earl Miller, now mana- ger of Chicago's United Airways. Earl invited us home with him for dinner. He started to introduce us to his wife, but there was no need to because we recognized her as the former Janette Hill of our '40 class. After dinner Earl and Janette took us to the DeLuxe tennis court where world famous tennis players were playing that day. To our surprise upon arriving our two classmates, Jean Meilike and Walter Shaw, were playing the doubles against the world champion tennis team. After the game, Jean and Walter, very close friends, took us to a large building downtown. There we met Alice Miller, now Brown, and Walter doing the play, Romeo and Juliet. Alice and Walter were glad to see us. Alice said she knew of three more of our classmates in Colorado, so all of us took off for Colorado the next morning to look for them. We landed in a pasture that night and started to a ranch house about a mile away. Upon reaching there Alice knocked on the door and imagine our surprise when Veronica Harkin opened the door and asked us in. Veronica was maid for Agnes Miller and Ian Slaughter. Ian and Agnes owned a large ranch and were very happy to see us. Ian said more of our classmates were in Denver so we journeyed there and met Everyl Hakes, famous woman lawyer, and her client, Audrey Huss, who was a rich society dame now. Everyl and Audrey joined the group and Ralph took off with us all aboard for Los Angeles, Calif. On the way we heard the famous contralto, Marie Weil. Upon reaching Los Angeles, we looked her up and found her accompanist to be Charles Smith. Marie took us to a huge fruit farm for a visit. The partners were Philip Martens, John Seymour and John Morgan. These boys were bachelors and owned tive such fruit plantations. Philip and the two Johns decided to join us and find our last classmate. Jean said that Irene Sheehey was running a night club in Reno. Just two days later, having abandoned the airplane and taking two cars, we reached Reno. We found the Moonlight Marvel, which is the name of Irene's club. Irene was very glad to see the class and invited us in to see the famous professor and magician, Mr. Cramer, n-.-1q1g1- Q-.q1g1g1g1-1q1-1-1g1. -5131--1-1.11pg1g1g1q-113151-1-1-.--131-1'-g1g perform. We gained one new member, Charlotte Crawford, of Melcher, on March 5. On September 18, we had our first class meeting to elect class officers. Those elected were: Gene Fisher, president, Lowell Strahan, vice president, Armina Gallagher, secretary and treasurerg Edna Marie Evans, class reporter. On November 15, the class presented a three-act play entitled, The Obstinate Bride, which netted about 338. This amount was not sufficient for the annual Junior-Senior Banquet, and on February 20, we had an oyster supper in an effort to get additional funds for the banquet which will be held at Mrs. Doty's Tea Room in Des Moines May 9. The members of the class were interested in many activities of the school. Georgia Bussanmas was a letter winner in declamatory. Most of the boys and girls went out for basketball but we will have only a few letter winners. Those in the class who are in the band are Dorothy Brownlie, Norma Michael, lla Maxwell, Lowell Strahan, Lyle Reeves and Gene Fisher. There will be some who will receive scholarship letters. Youker, a state employee, is the director and organizer. We lirst appeared in publie on February 27, with a very successful r-oneert. Not, all of the band members have uniforms as yet, but it is hoped that we will have them by the Iirst of April. We are now learning to march and it is hopeful that we can be able to go to a few ol' the band festivals. The prospects are very good for a band next year since there are but four seniors in the band. The band is not only for people or children in the school, but anyone in the community that would like to join can do so. We have several community members in one group. The Iirst band was organized in 1932 with 16 members and it was under the direction of J. Miller. However, it did not stay in organization very long. It is hoped that we will be able to continue our band and we can do so with the support of the community which we already have to a full degree. 4.
