SENIORS CLASS COLORS Brown and Gold MOTTO Not at the Top but Climbing FLOWER Yellow Rose CLASS HISTORY ' The Senior Class of 1938 started their freshman year with eleven ready, willing, and able pupils. This year we chose Miss Henderson as our sponsor and enjoyed a class party with her. At the end of the year Shirley Cope and john F. Huss left us. In our Sophomore year we chose Miss Romick as our sponsor. During this year john Sinn joined us from New Virginia and Ellen Brown from Des Moines. Adelaide Wise left us in March to go to St. Marys, where she has been a help on their sextet the last two years. We had three class parties. In our junior year we chose Mrs. Casey for our class sponsor. Ellen Brown left us to go to Des Moines. When the Churchville school closed our class gained Honora Hill, Marcella Graham, and jack L'Estrange. William Kelleher from Farrar and Eleanor Hadley from Carlisle also joined us. We had only one class party but our time was taken up with other activities, We edited the junior edition of the school paper. We presented the play The Heart Exchange on October 28. We entertained the seniors at a banquet at Younkers Tea Room on May I3, 1937. On the seventh of September we started our last lap in the course of our education at Martensdale. William Kelleher left us to go to Dowl- ing High School in Des Moines. Mr. Casey was our sponsor the first semes- ter and Mr. Littelle the second semester. We had thirteen members until we learned that B. j. Sayre had enough credits to graduate. He then be- came one of our classmates the second semester. Our activities included attendance of the first Senior Day at Simpson College, October Zl, and edited the first edition of the school paper. We gave the class play Henry Tells the Truth on April 29. We were entertained at a banquet at Younkers May 5. In between time we had three parties. Baccalaureate services were held May 15 and Commencement on May I9.
