First and Second Grades FIRST ROW: Dwight Geyer, Wendell Guinther, Bruce Rush, Jack Sickmiller, Steven White, Dicky Makeever, Barbara Smiley, Bonnie Smith, Michael Geyer, Paul Peery, SECOND ROW: Elizabeth Chandler, Joanne Goldsmith, Willie Leathem, Harold Lew, Carol Bailey, Lois Black, Elaine Burkhart, Ronnie Steele, Patti Neff, Michael Makeever, THIRD ROW: Mrs. Lyon, Harold Bailey, Danny Steele, Carl Montgomery, Linda Price, Karen Smith, Bobby Dorfe, Merrill McKinniss, Beverly Rice. ABSENT: Mona Jean Pelirey and Ruth Bilger. The first and second grades are taught by Mary Alice Lyon and have an en- rollment of thirty. Students are introduced to formal education in this room and are taught reading, writing, numbers, spelling language, music and handwork, Good citizenship is a very important part of our curriculum also. We were pajama children, negroes, stars, and cowboys in the Christmas pro- gram, At Christmas time we had a gift exchange, while parties were enjoyed at I-Ia1lowe'en and on Valentine Day, Due to the re-decoration of our room last year, we have had a very pleasant place in which to work and play this winter, making us all very happy, Through good attitudes, work habits and cooperation of parents much has been accomplished in our studies.

Thirty-three boys and girls have participated in the activities of our room this year, We returned to school in the cheerful atmosphere of a shiny newly-decorated room with new furniture, Famous birthdays and holidays are marked each year but each group finds new ways of remembrance, We enjoyed making little gifts for our parents, and our own Christmas gift exchange, We have read stories, poems, and short plays, Valentine Day and Holloween were party days with games and refreshments. The Christmas program gave us a chance to be messengers, skaters, negroes, and cowboys. It was fun, School is fun but school is work, too, There have been good days and some that were not so good. Some have found new work presenting a real challenge. The old quotation, All sunshine would make a desert, is well to remember when we have a difficulty to master. 's
