eniot efau sffbtoty ln September of l944 nineteen worried, but very anxious, children started to school here at Martel. The group has changed somewhat over the years, new faces have been gained and old ones lost. In l956, the group is still worried and anxious, but not about the some things. Here is the enrollment for the first year: Shirley Andrews, who later withdrew, John David Burk- hart, Kenneth Butler, Donald Coulter, Judy Fabian, Ann Hissong, Ronald Holtsberry, Bruce Jackson, John Landis, Philip leathem, Don Linstedt, Raymond Morrow, Roddy Neuman, Bill Rice, Alfreda Stinehelfer, Charles Taylor, Wallace Vaughn, Frances Ward, and Ronald Wilson. Mrs. Lyon performed the struggle of getting us started on the road to graduation. Mrs. Lyon had us for the second grade too, we began to see that school had a serious side apart from the games and little lessons that we enioyed the year before. This year Madlean Angel, lva Mae Bogan- wright and Robert Knaul were added to our class. This didn't increase our members because we lost Ken- neth Butler, Bruce Jackson, Frances Ward and Charles Taylor. When we passed to the third grade we were happy to go to a new room. We all liked Mrs. Lister, in fact we had two Mrs. Listers that year. We also added Charlene Barcus and Janice Whiteamire that year. In our fourth year Mrs. Winters took over the teaching of our class. We lost Charlene Barcus, Don- ald Coulter, lva Mae Boganwright and Ronald Wilson. We lost more than we gained, but our gain was Charles Sharrock, Bob Moodespaugh and Roy Shuster. Next year when we went into the fifth grade we had a new room and a new teacher, Mrs. Shu- maker. This year Floyd Beers, Ralph Elliott and Norman Loyer were added to our class. We also gave up Ronnie l'loltsberry, Robert Knaul, Roddy Neuman and Charles Sharrock. ln the sixth grade we were in the same room with the same teacher. No excitementl We did add Faye Akers and Angie Frazier to make school more interesting for the boys at least. The same year we had to cross off Madlean Angel and Floyd Beers. ln the severth grade we went upstairs. Great excitementl Now we had more than one teacher 5 everything seemed new and different. We gained three new members: Esther Irwin, Mary Irwin and Glen Linstedt. ln return Faye Akers and Alfredo Stinehelfer left. ln the eighth grade we had the same room. We gained Eddie Smith and lost Angie Frazier, Roy Shuster and Ralph Elliott. Next we moved into high school. We found our freshman initiation was a lot of fun. This year we made an exchange, Charles Sharrock came back to us and Dean Vaughn left us. Earl Close was with us throughout our sophomore year, but at the end of it he and Charles Sharrock left. Our iunior year was quite busy. This year we took our class trip and we had numerous activities to raise money for our trip. Catherine Bilger was with us most of this year. And now we are seniors about to graduate from Martel High School. We have complained many times over, but l think we all feel a pang on leaving the scene of the last years. Especially since now we have to go out into the world and make our own way, without depending on teachers and parents. But we're anxious to try ourselves, so let 's beginl I3
