Ten girls and six boys were in the fifth grade and four girls and five boys were in the sixth grade. Our celebrated activities were in line with the consecutive holidays of the school year. Perhaps the Christmas party was most enioyed by all of us. We hope that all of you enjoyed the part our room played in 'the Christmas pro- gram when we presented The Christmas Story Retold . Our entire room was represented. We present a play, The Year on Parade , at the January 20, Community Club meeting Orchestra members from this group are Janet Goken, Jewell Grimes, Phyllis Kile and Tom Seif. We found Social Studies, a somewhat new subject, quite interesting. The sixth grade learned about the gifts of Ancient World to Western Nations Changing Their Ways The fifth grade studied how our country has become a World Power from the Colonial Days. We are enioying our school year, though we have to work hard to learn so much, there is always some time for fun too. Seventh and Eighth Grades There are ten in the seventh grade and fifteen in the eighth. Early in September, both classes went on a hayride together. In December the eighth grade went on a skat- ing party. These eighth graders held a Bake Sale at Bernard Lyon's grocery in Caledonia which they made Sl8.75. Both classes have been collecting sales stamps. ln December, Every Pupils test in reading was given to both seventh and eighth and strange as it may seem, the seventh grade scored above the eighth grade. Patricia Hill is president of the eighth grade while Linda Noodespaugh the seventh grade. Both grades are on a program for the Community Club to be given in February. 21 First and Second Grades FIRST ROW: Vemon Worcester, Margaret Bailey, 1Judy Jones, Teddy Guinther, Harold Manring, Gary Hildreth, Pansy Ettinger, Aretta Woodruff, David Bilger. ABSENT: Margaret Pinyerd. 22 First and Second Grades The first and second grades are taught by Mary Alice Lyon. We learn to work and play together. lt is great fun to come to school and learn to read, draw, paint, spell and work with numbers. One of the highlights of the year was the day we made our movie on Community Helpers. Of course we enjoyed our part in the Christmas program and our Hallowe'en and Valentine parties. We took part in the March Community Club program too. The two things we enioy most is to spell and paint. We have had a very happy school year. Third and Fourth Grades The third and fourth grades began the year with thirty-four cheerful, busy boys and girls. This number was soon increased to thirty-seven. During the year, we have had only eight little girls to maintain a feminine influence in the midst of such a large group of boys. We have enioyed working together to learn our reading, writing, arithmetic, spelling, social studies, and English. New books in third grade reading and fourth grade social studies have added interest to the work. Anumber of new library books also helped us in our work. The principal aim of activities in our room is to gain in ability to work independently. During the first semester of the year, we made a special unit study of health, stressing nutrition. In the second semester, we enioyed a unity study of the history and progress of transportation. This study was especially fun for the boys because it included horses, boats, stagecoaches, airplanes, etc. The children have taken pride in participating in special programs for Christmas, Community Club and Farmers' Institute. ln the room, we have had parties to celebrate Hallowe'en and Valentine's Day. A gift exchange and the movie Silent Night high- lighted our Christmas. We leave this year-saddened at parting-but glad in the knowledge of work well 23 .-5, 1 XJ- Y 1 5: 155 f iii rg, - ui 1 'Q ,IA . 'xi 5 :A 11' 'll 2 iii ' 15.
