X Eldon Ward. Some new teachers also were added, Mrs. Hibbard and Mr. Hiemstra. Under this able teaching staff the Sophomores learned Eng- lish, Geometry, Latin, Biology and other subjects. Plays in which sophomores took part were nMistakes at the Blakesn and HThanks Awfullyn. The Sophomores also took part in athletic activ- ities. It was that year that the first graduating class left the Marsing High School. Having reached the mid-point of high school we bid good- bye to the position of Sophomores. As Juniors we found in our midst seven new students, Louise Law, Birdie Mae Smith, Faye Loosli, John Seitz, Lennard Smith, Mary Wolfe, and Maud Young. ' Class officers elected were Leo Simpkins, President, Eugene Ander- son, Vice President, and Maud Young, Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. Milette, Miss Andersen, and Mr. Albertson were added to the faculty increasing the number of teachers to six. The Juniors under the able direction of Mrs. Miller presented the play nCyclone Sallyn. The money was used in entertaining the second class of Seniors to leave the High School'at the Junior-SenicrfBBnquet. This banquet was held May 1, 1940, with the help of Miss Andersen, at the We-Hefho-Club House. Leo Simpkins acted as master of ceremonies. 'It was toward the last of the year that our class suffered a great loss, the death of our class sponsor, Mrs. Hibbard. Her death was a loss not only to the Junior Class but the entire school. we truly appreciate her work in giving the last months of her life to our class and school. Upon the death of Mrs. Hibbard, Mrs. McIver became the class sponsor and English teacher for the entire school. During the drive for infantile paralysis funds, a contest was held for the class that gave the most money. By every one co-operating the Junior Class won and were awarded a full day vacation in which a picnic was had at Nampa. A' - When in the fall of 1940 our group again assembled as Seniors we found again some additions to our class, RayQLo9Bli, and'Brad1ey Amm- strong. Philip McCallister and Bradley Armstrong, however, dropped out during the year. Phyllis Peterson entered our class shortly after. New additions to the teaching staff were, Miss Carothers, Mr. Carlsen, and Mr. Ovregaard. Class officers were electedg Louise Law, President, Bette Willin Vice President, Maud Young, Secretary-Treasurer. Hiflvmniig , Yi W 1 Q mf 153 eftiaiziffifefq On November 21, the Senior Glass Under the direction of Miss Carothefs PI'0S0I1'f50d U10 Play Hobgoblin House . Because of play prec- tice the Senior were unable to attend a skating party held by the rest of the school. They had o. party of their own however e. few days later. The Nampa School presented the same play on November 22. The cast at- tended as a body, and enjoyed finding the mistakes made by Nampa. At Christmas time 9. party was held in the auditorium of the high school building. There was an exchange of gifts followed by the play- ing of games and a big feed. I In February another party was held. This time at Givens Springs. After e. good swim 0. fire was built and some weinsrs roasted. An assembly program was presented by the Senior Class on April Znd. The program was composed of ai play representing a district school of-1956 climaxed by e. violin solo played by Maestro Melving 'Fitz Chr- istler' Lawrence . It was suspected however by some of the audience that there was something fishy about it. On the first day of May the Seniors attended the Junior-Senior banquet at which they were enterteined royaly by the Juniors. Marjorie Bevans served as toastmistross and the banquet was appreciated by all of the Seniors. After the labors of four years the great week arrived. On Sunday May ll, Baccalaureate was held with Professor H. H. Hayman as speaker, May 17th was the day of days for the Seniors. The Seniors presented the entire commencement program themselves and on that day bid goodbye to the class rooms of Marsing High School. Some of our students will go to further educational heights while others go out into the school of life. --Forrest Coats 2 . H.: sg i7'r'5 lF?41HUdl5ffi3heE32!!'if5 :'1?.'s-'fsalfffrfsfe-.
