DEDICATION Traditionally the senior class has dedicated its annual yearbook to a member of the Marshwood community from the faculty, staff, or administration. These individuals have ail offered something special to the class and have in- spired admiration and affection. The class of '84 has broken with tradition in electing to recognize one of its own. He is not honored for exceptional scholarship, athletic prowess, or extraordinary talents. Rather he is recognized for what Hemingway noted as heroic “grace under pressure.” It is this quiet courage that inspires our admiration, the assurance that truly man is not made for defeat.” Because life without hope for the future is not a prospect we wish to consider, his hope for the future is shared by all. Although we do not live in an age that feels comfortable with heroes, perhaps there is an acceptable heroism — “endurance for one moment more.” If so it is in this spirit that the class of 1984 dedicates this edition of the REED to BRIAN BECKNER 18
