Zip” Zamarchi has been a familiar figure and a spe- cial citizen in the community of Marshwood High School. From early Monday morning when he raised the flag, to late Saturday night when he cleaned after dances, his presence was apparent and appreciated. While sweating over a boiler or cleaning snow from the walkways, he was not always .visible, but all were confi- dent that if needed. Zip was available. In speaking of men who are employed, Ben Franklin states . . .on the days they worked they were good-natured and cheer- ful, and, with the consciousness of having done a good day's work, they spent the evening jollily . . . We wish Zip the best of luck in his retirement and wish to express our gratitude for a job well done throughout the numerous years of service to the schools. Marshwood's second year wrestling program experienced growth in every area. The thirty- three man squad surpassed last year's turnout by nearly fifty percent. The J.V. team won a major- ity of its matches and provided backup depth for the improving Varsity which ended the season with an eight and eight record. The Varsity dual meet season was highlighted by impressive victo- ries over more experienced grapplers. The increasing number of fans attending home contests attested to the growing popularity of this local sport's interest. 82 MARSHWOOD SPRING SPORTS March 76 entered like the proverbial lion at Marshwood High School. Nevertheless, the winter athletic teams removed their uniforms to prepare for spring sports. The spring athletic season includes boys and girls track squads, girls softball, and boys baseball. All squads and coaches anticipated suc- cessful seasons. STUDENT COUNCIL ROW 1 - L. Ricci. ROW 2 - C. Jacques, C. Burton, L. Gagne, A. Marshman, L. Witham. ROW 3-D. St. Pierre, L. Emery. ROW 4 - M. The National Honor Society sells stationery and jackets, and operates the tonic machine as money raising activities. Scholarships from the proceeds of these activities are awarded annually to two deserving senior members. The National Honor Society also funds local sponsors for two Latin American exchange students each year. Jorge Lehmann and Lucienne Hermano Marshwood's two Latin American exchange students, sponsored by the National Honor Society, were Luciene Hermano and Jorge Lehmann. Luciene, from Brasilia, Brazil, was 16 years old. She was here for five months and lived with Annette and Lisa Zamarchi. She had studied English for one year before her visit. Jorge, from Buenos Aires, was 17 years old. He was on the three month exchange program and resided with Jason King. Before coming to the United States, Jorge had studied English for three years. Both Luciene and Jorge will be remembered as two of the nicest exchange students to visit Marshwood High School on the student exchange program. 89 OUTING CLUB LATIN CLUB ROW 1 - L. Kent, K. It is the bicentennial of our nation. It is the end of a major stage of development for seniors at Marshwood High School. Both of these events are cause for celebration. It is also the official” end of a career in teaching that spans close to thirty years. Dorothy Green retires from the staff of Marshwood High this year. While both faculty and students view her retirement as well deserved and wish her the best in her civilian life, there will be little jubilation. All who have had the pleasure to work with her realize the profundity of our loss. She represents all that is worthy of admiration in American life and education. In both her English and Latin classes her approach has heeded the Latin proverb DIMIDIUM FACTI, QUI COEPIT, HABET. (Well begun is half done.) The positive results have been obvious. The absence of her intellectualism, professionalism, dedication, and humor will be greatly felt by present and future members of the Marshwood community. She is tmly a lady for all seasons. 128
