Her patience, her kindness, and her understanding have made her one of the most respected and best-loved members of our faculty. Our gratitude goes to Mrs. Allen, as we, the members of the 1969 Yearbook staff, dedicate to her this volume of the Marshwood High School Reed. 3 Mrs. Mildred Obrey Advisor Cherie Sprague Editors Susan Vittum Cindy Blaney Business Ellen Thornley Valerie Covington Staff Judy Miller Linda Phillips Chris Proof Lynne Parent Cathy Robinson Ralph Barr Advertising Bonnie Cress Diane Hunter Kathy Spencer Stephanie Anderson Cindy Hoffses Debbie LaPointe Wayne Moore Tom Odiorne Diane Fletcher Chris Pare Brenda Cormier 4 THE STAFF America has many gifts for her young people and the greatest is the right to free public education. You, the members of the graduating class, have had the benefit of this gift. The citizens of the district have made a sizable investment in your future. As you leave the halls of Marshwood High School, I hope that you will repay the citizens of this district by calling for the best within yourself to face the responsibilities of the future. The world is waiting for you-do with it as you will. Let the history books say that this generation sought to overcome the real problems of mankind poverty, prejudice, and discrimination. Congratulations on your graduation. Grayson A. Hartley Superintendent of Schools 6 Mr. Donald J. MacLane Principal This has been an interesting year at Marshwood. We have made definite steps toward the establishment of better lines of communication among the students, teachers, and administration; and by these lines of communication, we have found ourselves becoming a more cohesive group-a group which is increasingly proud to be called “Marshwoodians.” As our school progresses, we will continue to develop these lines of communication, to investigate new ideas, and to try out new approaches of modern educational advancement. To paraphrase the words of Pope, we will not be the first by whom the new is tried nor will we be the last to lay the old aside. 7 Cossis an CPr nc paJ Mr. Roy E. Whalen Librarian Mrs. Agnes G. Although this year’s Freshman basketball team did not win any games, steady progress and improvement was made through the season. It is hoped that the majority of this year’s team will continue to participate in basketball because we feel that they can contribute a great deal to J. V. and Varsity teams in future years. Throughout the season a high spirit was shown by all the players. Because of this there were several fairly close games which might have been won. 82 STANDING: C. Blaney, D. Maglaris, J.
