Back from their summer vacation they came. to find the school just as they had left it in the spring. However. several new teachers had made their appearance. Outstanding event of September was the dedication of Beell Stadium. The students were doubly proud that night. They had one of the Gnest stadiums in the conference, and the team defeated the Rapids! All classes held their elections early in the year with very capable ofhcers being elected. TIGER BENEFIT BALL This year the annual Tiger Carnival was replaced by a large confetti ball. Although many features of the carnival were retained. the most prominent was the election of a l-:ing and queen by popular vote. After the excitement of counting votes was hnished, Del Connaughty and Ruthe Vvfagner were crowned king and queen of the Tiger Ball. Dancing continued to the music of Bob Dietrich and his College Play Boys. During this month. a mumps epidemic hit the high school. quarf antining many students and two faculty members. October 31 saw the hnal football game played in a rainstorm. ANCHORS AVJEIGH To the tune of Anchors Aweighu the students danced at the 1942 Senior Ball. Held early in the year to avoid conflicting with other senior activities, the dance drew a big crowd. Vwfally Beau's orchestra provided the music. The students had two vacations during November: on the fourth and Hfth. the teachers went to their state convention in Milwaukee: on the twentyffirst all celebrated Thanksgiving Day. Basketball season got under way with a nonfconference game at Ivlosinee. THE HOLIDAYS As usual. December brought a wel' come relief from school activities. The day before school closed for the holidays. a Christmas program was pre' sented under the direction of Miss Anderson with the help of various students and the band. During the two week vacation. the usual holiday formal and informal parties were held. The alumni were home to tell of their experiences. The New Year was ushered in with the usual ceremony. BIQMS' DAY Coming back in january. the students found an innovation in their program. Due to the de' fense program. for the first time in the history of Marsh' field. school was held on Saturday. This plan was carried out twice a month through March. Objections weren't voiced too loudly. but the students on one occasion took the liberty of converting it into a Bums' Day. The tattered and multifcolored clothes worn on that occasion were the talk for many a day. Both boys and girls vied for honors to see who could look the worst. The results. however. were a tossfup between the two. 6 PICTURE OF THE YEAR Pictured ahove lr une of the nut-tanding event- nf the athletic year. With but a few good drills, the team, under their new coach, Mr. Almli, went to Stevens Point for their opening game. Trailing at the half, the team came hack in the final minutes of play to nose out the Pointers, 13-7. On Septemher 26 the new stadium was dedf icated. For the opponent that evening, the Tigers faced their arch rivals from the Rapids. Inspired hy their new stadium, the team gave a good showing. Although the Red Raiders of the Rapids were often in scoring positions, the line held for two goalfline stands and the team pulled out to win 14'O. The second outfof-town game was played at Antigo. Fighting in a drizzling rain, the Tigers were left at the short end of a 6-0 score. For the 1941 homecoming, the Tigers met Merrill in the Beell Stadium. A nip and tuck battle was fought with Marshfield trailing most of the way. Coming back in the fourth pe' riod with a touchdown, they tied the Blue' Jays, 7-7. The next game was played at Rhinelander. After holding the strong Rhinelanders the first half, the Tigers' defense slackened and they were left on the short end of a 2OfO score. Cn the following Friday night, the ever' powerful Wausau Lumberjacks came to town and ran roughfshod over Beell Stadium. The final score - Marshfield O, Wausau 45. The last game of the season was played with Nekoosa in a downpour of rain. In spite of the weak play caused by the treacherous footing and slippery hall, the Tigers came through with a l3f0 win. The Brown Bombers, better known as the NB squad, played two games this year. In their lirst game they tied the Owen varsity 7-7. Their second game with a strong B team from Eau Claire also ended in the tie score of 6 all. WW I5 Foothall Awards Made This Year 40' yy-5 P2 F Bebeler D. Bracm M Bracm JVIS T. Since the purpose of the club is to interest business students in the wide held of com- mercial arts, all opportunities in business were discussed throughout the year at the club's monthly meetings. Business meetings were conducted by the president, Colleen Holleran, but were Linder the supervision of Miss johnf son and Mr. Phillips, who are the club ad' viscrs. Vicefpresident Evelyn Peterson took charge of club affairs when the president was absent. As before, the club sold candy bars after school as a means of obtaining an income. The treasurer, Violet Jossi, took charge of ordering the candy and making the bank deposits from the profits of the sales. Appointing the candy sellers for each week was the duty of the secretary, Helen Ingle. Early in September, at the homecoming festivities, the club won first plac with their 1 J 'N ,U nat which consisted of a large typewriter raised on a platform. Inserted in the type' writer was a sheet of paper with the large words, We'rc the type that lights for vic' tory. The members of the club sat about the typewriter ready for work. At Christmas, a large party was held in the cafeteria for the small children from the grade schools of the city. In February, another party was held to which the members of last year's club were invited to tell of their experiences since leaving school. The hnal social event, to top all the activities of the club for the year, was the annual picnic given by the junior members for the departing senior members of the club, Mr. Phillips is conducting a followfup study of former students in the club to learn their troubles and experiences after they graduate from school and obtain positions.
