REFERENCE ONLY Ventress Library 15 Library Plaza Marshfield, MA 02050 AUG 2 2 2010 1988 Tide Thank you Mr. Gardner for your enthusiasm, your love for teaching, your respect for us as people, not merely teenagers , your sparkling wit, your dazzling smile, and all of your Zingers {especially of those Zicko zingers). Tie on the old feed bag has never meant so much to so many. The class of 1988 loves you and will miss you .... We ll have to; you won ' t let us write to you after we leave! 2 Dedication Mr. John McVahsh Do you know what that sounds like downstairs? Mr. McVarish groans as chairs are dragged across the floor. For years students at Marshfleld High have enjoyed John McVarish ' s one-liners and witticisms during their learning experience . Afl ec- tionately dubbed McV , he has helped Latin enjoy a rebirth through his motto Aut Disce Aut Discede meaning Learn or get out. Through McV, the students have learned not only how to deal with Latin, but also how to deal with life, learning to take what is given to them - all the while laughing. The Class of 1988 proudly dedicates this yearbook to Mr. John McVarish. 3 Wle Thank Vow Mrs. Mandile . . . Mrs. Lyn Mandile for your positive attitu de and extraordinary ideas that have kindled and kept out spirits alive. Your helpfulness and guidance as an advisor have made our class truly success- ful. Mrs. Mandile, we hope you will always remember our Great Class of 88” because we will always cherish and remember you. A small group of students volunteered to become Friendly Visitors for less active and homebound senior citizens. Visits are made on a weekly to monthly basis, and the nature of the visit is determined by the student and the senior citizen. Some decide to take a walk, to go shopping, or simply to enjoy each other ' s company. The goal of the program is to span the generation gap since both generations have so much that they can learn from one another and so much to give to one another. 94 1888 Marshfield fiigh School From 1888 to 1988, Marshfield High School has been housed in several different buildings, but its spirit is i housed in the people who make upi Marshfield High. This Centenniall Celebration has given us a sense ofi history. May we also have a sense ofl the future, for we truly are the future. The Great Class of ' 88 ' is a speciall ' one - smart, talented, and caring. MARSHFIELD HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC BOOSTERS DEDICATED TO BUILDING SCHOOL SPIRIT AND PRIDE S S 5 THE FAIRVIEW INN 133 Ocean St. Brant Rock 834-9144 The Inn Build in 1874 by Martin Swift, the Fair- view has been in continuous operation ever since. Originally established as a boarding house for Boston’s vacationing elite, the Fairview has undergone many changes during it’s one hundred plus year history. During the 1920’s and 30’s the building was home to the exclusive and elegant “Como Club”. Here patrons began the evening by dining to the music of strolling violinists, and later retired to the gambling tables at the rear of the restaurant. Legend has it that the club was named for the ship Como which sailed the east coast running rum during the prohibi- tion. The entrance to a tunnel from the ocean, through which contraband liquor was smuggled into the club can still be seen in the basement. The ocean side en- trance to the tunnel has long since col- lapsed. Incidentally, over the fireplace in the lounge is a painting of the legendary “Como” done in 1933 by Allen Davidson. Over the years the Fairview has become famous for it’s wholesome, hearty food and picturesque location. As always, all meals are prepared to order from the fin- est available ingredients. Both the dining room and the lounge are open year round with the added attrac- tion of a sun deck or warm days and a fireplace for cooler nights. We hope you have an enjoyable meal. We appreciate any comments you might have. Thank you for your pa- tronage. i 122 D Your Dad an I may have been tough on you at times but we knew you, of anyone would succeed once your goals were set.
