I I t MARSHFIELD HIGH SCHOOL • MARSHFIELD MA. 3 5V 1983 JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM Prom The class of “84 held the annual Junior-Senior Prom on April 29, 1983 at Christo’s II in Brockton. “Just You and I” by Crystal Gayle and Eddie Rabbitt was the theme song that set the mood for this memorable event. The evening’s | entertainment was provided by the energetic band Euphoria. A spectacular | menu for the occasion included prime rib, potato, glazed carrots, Greek salad, I and ice cream pie. i The Prom Queen was Tracey Grey who was escorted by Ricky Batts. Her court was made up of Caryn Amiss with Kevin Olivolo, Tammy Grafield with her date Steve Hocking and Wendy Powell escorted by Ken Walker. ' The day before the prom a Students Against Drunk Driving rally was held with honorary chairperson Robin Young presiding. The students, parents, and school officials established an emergency hotline Prom night which contributed to the safety and success of the evening. The class of “84” would especially like to thank our spectacular class advisor .Mr. Gardner for his help and support without which this special night would not have been possible. 1983 HOMECOMING Homecoming: 1983 On October I, 1983 Marshfiled High School played against Taunton for our Homecoming Game. Halftime activities included the M.H.S. Band and crowning the Queen and her court. The queen was Laura Callis. Her first runner-up was Jane Brady and her sec- ond-runner-up was Kerri Shaughnessy. Other members of the royal court were Tammy Garfield and Wendy Powell. The final score of the game was Rams-7; Taunton-6. That night the Key Club sponsored the Homecom- ing Dance, where the King, Tom Concannon, was crowned and runner-ups were Joe Shee- han, Darryl Riggins, David Rand and Nick Nobili. I 1984 TIDE 1r. Peterson is a very special person. He has helped and encouraged many students in his work with both the National Honor Society and S.A.D.D. Because of his dedication. lr. Peterson certainly does more than is expected of him. The Class of ' 84 will never forget Mr. F eterson ... or his Pac- 1an addiction. DEDICATION How does one begin to describe Mr. McVarish? He is open, willing to listen, and often uses his droll sense of humor to break up what otherwise might be another grinding day at M.H.S. Mr. McVarish makes both students and himself laugh. Whatever the case, it will be easy to remember Mr. McVarish, Rex Scientiae Latinae. ADMINISTRATION CHO( ADMINISTR OFFICl Jack Braithwaitc. Dir of Special Hducaliun Sealed: John Creed. Ralph DeOrsay. He cares for the students, works close with them with their same enthusiasm, and even tries to be funny (although it often fails). His dynamic personality serves as a leading in- fluence as well as an encouraging force in activi- ties the class is involved in. He has served as both an outstanding teacher and a good friend to many in the class. It is this uniqueness that helped to make the class of 1984 one to be remembered. This special evening was filled with enthusiasm from both the administration and the students. Mike Keeley provided the music and the students provided the dancing along with Mr. Deftos rendition of the “Curly Shuffle” and some fancy footwork by Mr. Gardner, Mr. Pearce, and Mr. Jarvis to a “Quiet Riot” dedication. The senior class was brought together here with each other and with the administration in a friendly semi-formal environment. As the first social event of the year for seniors, this night out was a great beginning for a great year to come. James Youngclaus I 67 AIR GUITAR CONTEST On I riday, December 9. 1983 the 2nd Annual Air (juitar Contest was held in the gym, .A group of sophomore boys, who wish to remain anonymous, proved that the lour Tops couldn ' t handle “Bernadette. ” Then the freshman girls proved that getting involved in “Old Time Rock n’ Roll” is truly risky busi- ness for ones so young. Kerri Baker and Ann-Marie Rizzotto showed everyone why the Clash engage in “Combat Rock.” Ricky Vciga did a “Moon Walk” or two like Michael What’s-his- name and then was so embarrassed that he “beat it” out of town before Christ- mas. Things really determined when the so-called “Macho-Men” juniors tried to turn the gym into a “Y.M.C.A.” as the Village People but the old troopers came through to save the evening. Mr. Small, Mr. Jarvis, Mr. Pearce, and Mr. Gardner sent the crowd into a frenzy after their sensational Quiet Riot per- formance. Their costumes were almost as spectacular as their moves. Natural- ly the crowd showed their lack of musi- cal taste by voting Michael Jackson the winner, but at least all who attended found the evening to be a real “Thrill- er.” 68 69 NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY FALL INDUCTION The fall induction of the National Honor Soci- ety added seven members of the Class of 1984 to the already existing membership of seventy stu- dents who had been inducted in the Spring of 1983. At the dinner held at the Marshfield Country Club Robert Jarvis, Assistant Principal of M.H.S., delivered the keynote address to the group. Also at the dinner the Superintendents Award, given for the first time this year, went to Chris- topher Round and Craig Washa, who were com- mended for academic excellence. Ten honor so- ciety members were also recognized by the Na- tional Merit Scholarship Program. They were Thomas Anderson, Mary Beth Hewitt, and Christopher Round; Daniel Bardon, Ann-Marie Coombs, Tracey Cusick, Michael Godin, Rich- ard Palmieri, Mark Patrick, and John Pallard as recipients of Letters of Commendation. The 1983-84 officers are President, Karin Kac- zorowski; Vice President, Ann Noyes; Treasur- er, Christopher Round; Secretary, Laura Callis; Monitor, Maura Riley; Student Council Repre- sentative, Michele Blaney; Co-Historians, Thomas Anderson and Karen Muir. To be elected a N.H.S. member a student must possess high academic achievement and be ap- proved by vote of the faculty council. This vote is based on leadership, character, and service. The National Honor Society conducts many ac- tivities to benefit the community and the school. These activities are work weekends (spring and fall), beautification day, bloodmobile. Commu- nity Christmas donations, and a tutoring pro- gram for high school students. 71 J NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS: Keith Adams, Tom Anderson, Brian Balconi, Susan Balkam, Daniel Bar- don, Michelle Blaney, Michael Botelho, Jane Brady, Elizabeth Briggs, Rita Burke, Laura Callis, James Cantwell, Jeff Cedrone, Greg Cesarz, Ann-Marie Coombs, Cynthia Cotter, Denise Courcy, Kim Crawford, Tra- cey Cusick, Kim Davis, Micheal Desellier, Christine Durr, Richard Eby, Janet Entwis- tle, Heidi Erickson, Kara Firnrohr, Steph- anie Gill, Michael Godin, Elizabeth Hayes, MaryBeth Hewitt, Tania Howes, Karin Kaczorowski, Russell Lannon, David Lyng, John McDonough, Cheryl McCormick, Sean McLaughlin, Sarah Messer, Susan Messer, Marguerite Morris, Karen Muir, Stephanie Murphy, Bruce Nevel, Nick No- bili, Ann Noyes, Richard Palmeiri, Mark Patrick, John Pollard, David Rand.
