TIDE 1982 TABLE OF CONTENTS Marshfield High School Marshfield Massachusetts Dedication Senior Portraits Activities Sports Administration Faculty Senior Index Advertisements 1 . Ml, • A 1 - LiCil % i DEDICATION We the class of t982, are proud to honor Mr. Deftos and Ms. Guadagno with our yearbook dedication. In both cases it is an honor well-deserved and earned. Not a day went by at M.H.S. without seeing at least one of Mr. Deftos ' famous smiles. Whether it was during a suspension or a good morning hello. He always found a way to cheer up even the gloomiest days. He was a vice principal truly dedicated to his job because he was so dedicated to his students. He gained respect through his friendly attitude and open invitation to help solve any problems. We at M.H.S. will sincerely miss Mr. Deftos and wish him much happiness and success at his new job. 4 t’J When ft comes to warming the hearts of students Ms. Guadagno is no exception. Her style of teaching won her ma ny admires. She took away the formal class- room attitude and replaced it with an open and relaxed atmo- sphere, This made students more comfortable and eager to learn. Her continuous understanding makes her a teacher who will not be forgotten easily. We are pleased to dedicate our year- book to her and hope she keeps her same caring attitude so other students will also be fortunate enough to benefit. ■ SHes« , % f J W J Tj ' ■ .o ' ,;: SENIORS Linda Allen Alfred Almeder Heidi Almeida Brent Alvey Kimberly Acker Margaret Alnslie A. . The DECA Club has had a very educational and memorable year. DECA is a co-curriculum program with the Distributive Education program at Marshfield High School. DECA is an active organization on both the state and national level. DECA is the formal name of Distributive Education Clubs of America. It ' s more than just running the school store. Students attended a DECA Leadership Conference on October 12 in Mansfield, MA. Students had a chance to take a look at the DECA program and what can be gained through DECA. They also had a chance to grasp the meaning of self-confidence and teamwork. On February 1 and 2 DECA members went to work in competition at the Mass. DECA regional Career Development Conference at the Hyannis Regency Hotel. Students were able to compete against other DECA members from surrounding towns. Students who qualified at the Regional Conference were able to attend the Mass DECA State Career Development Conference on March 28-30, at Dunfy ' s in Hyannis. Students who qualify for Nationals will spend the week of June 26-July 1 in Chicago for the National Career Development Conference. 74 We all wish the DECA Club the best of luck in the future. Junior varsity coach Mr. Moriarty is looking forward to the upcoming season hoping to be the coach. Coach Moriarty feels last years team was a very good team. We were short two to three positions of being a team to go to the playoffs and because we only lost four play- ers next years team should be really solid. They lost a pitcher, outfield, first base and second base positions, but Moriarty feels that there are enough players on the J.V. team who will definitely fill those four spots very easily. Next years varsity team should be very strong in both the infield and outfield. Two outstanding players. Jay Hubbard and Jay Sullivan were named to the O.C.L. All-Star Team. First Row; Derek Wolfe, Paul Armstrong, Chris Aropoff, (captains) Kenny Beers and Jay Hubbard, John Afanaslw, Brian Noyes and Chris Allington. Second Row; (scorekeeper) Sheila Freeman, Mark Flanigan, Bob Palmier!, Gene Guimond, Pat Leahy, Tom Dimietri, Billy Kolor, Jay Sullivan, and (coach) Fred Podbelski. 1981 Softball O.C.L. All-Star Team as starters. Deb- bie Webber and Jennifer Mullen were selected as alternates to this team. team will have a lot of hard work, cut out for them, but he is confident that they will be in shape for a winning 1982 season. The girls softball team of 1981 had a record of 8 wins and 8 losses. Of the 8 losses, four of them were by only one run. Untimely errors and the lack of key hits were the demise of the Rams. Coach Dupius feels that the 1982 season will be a very challenging one for this years ' team. With only four returning lettermen, he is hopeful that Mr. Colella ' s J.V. squad (13-1) will be able to adjust to varsity level compe- tition and hold their own this year. The On the positive side, Denise Davis, Laura Gassett, Susan Quinn, and Ka- ren Van Ness were selected to the « i I BOYS j TENNIS The boy ' s tennis team had a very successful 1981 season. They finished second in the old colony league with a rec ord of 14 wins and 2 losses. They won the states also. GIRL’S TRACK The girls ' track team finished the 1981 season in sec- ond place with an outstanding record of 7 wins and 1 loss. Their only loss was to o strong Silver Lake team In o close meet whose outcome depended upon the lost event. Coach Potenoude was extremely pleased with his team and feels that although he lost some key seniors the team will be just os strong In the following season due to the many remaining and upcoming participants. Marshfield finished first in the All-league meet, a meet In which all eight towns of the old colony league participated.
