DON ' T DE SATISFIED, HELP AMERICA GROW! We who represent the graduating Class of 1980, represent the future of America ' s tomorrow. The future depends upon our generation to stand firm, tall and independent. We must recognize the diplomatic, eco- nomic, and social concerns of our. country. As we enter the transitional course of adulthood, the Unit- ed States emerges into the ' 80 ' s. We must now forget the protest ' s of the 1960 ' s and yesterdays declining ' 70 ' s, with a valid filtration of concern and responsibility through the 1980 ' s. Alexander Tytler once wrote, after his study of the fall of Athens: t The average civilization has been 200 years. These Nations have progressed through this se- quence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abun- dance to selfishness, from selfishness to compla- cency, from complacency to apathy, from apa- thy to dependency, and from dependency back into bondage. If we don ' t accept individual and political responsibilities, future generations will not be allowed the liberties our ' s and past generations have enjoyed. Nor will they be allowed the challenge of accelerating American respect, integrity, and freedom that once symbolized this nation as the leader of the free world. We must project a potent example for future generations to procurel The Class of 1980 must unite our confidence and ideals of independent strengths for the development of America, tomorrow. Our oneness can not allow us to sit back apath- etically, affording the United States and her people a back seat to the future of the world. Political and governmental decisions affect each of us as individuals and as a whole. Todays students are tomorrow ' s future . . . Let ' s unite be- fore we digress Into bondage, by Trebor Rehsif
