MarshfieB igh MARSHFIELBt.0lA DON ' T DE SATISFIED, HELP AMERICA GROW! We who represent the graduating Class of 1980, represent the future of America ' s tomorrow. The future depends upon our generation to stand firm, tall and independent. We must recognize the diplomatic, eco- nomic, and social concerns of our. country. As we enter the transitional course of adulthood, the Unit- ed States emerges into the ' 80 ' s. We must now forget the protest ' s of the 1960 ' s and yesterdays declining ' 70 ' s, with a valid filtration of concern and responsibility through the 1980 ' s. Alexander Tytler once wrote, after his study of the fall of Athens: t The average civilization has been 200 years. These Nations have progressed through this se- quence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abun- dance to selfishness, from selfishness to compla- cency, from complacency to apathy, from apa- thy to dependency, and from dependency back into bondage. If we don ' t accept individual and political responsibilities, future generations will not be allowed the liberties our ' s and past generations have enjoyed. Nor will they be allowed the challenge of accelerating American respect, integrity, and freedom that once symbolized this nation as the leader of the free world. We must project a potent example for future generations to procurel The Class of 1980 must unite our confidence and ideals of independent strengths for the development of America, tomorrow. Our oneness can not allow us to sit back apath- etically, affording the United States and her people a back seat to the future of the world. Political and governmental decisions affect each of us as individuals and as a whole. Todays students are tomorrow ' s future . . . Let ' s unite be- fore we digress Into bondage, by Trebor Rehsif nan TIDE □EDICBTIDN We, the class of i960, dedicate our yearbook to two members of the M.H.S. staff who have influenced and encouraged the success of each and every student throughout his H.5 years. The honor this year goes to Mrs. Smith and Mr. Deftos. Mrs. Smith, a dedicated social studies teacher, has succeeded with her unique per sonality to influence many students. Throughout her years of travel, Mrs. Smith not only has made herself worldly, but, has spread this worldliness to her students. Mrs. Smith has not only encouraged students In social studies, but. in English too. If a student ever needed a new vocabulary word Mrs. Smith ' s room was the first stop. If there is a person who can make a student smile after telling him of his suspension is has to be Mr. Deftos. A long time member of the M.H.S. staff, Mr. Deftos has encouraged students to adopt a new outlook towards school. His patience and sense of humor have helped us In our success throughout high school. We feel that both people ore a definite asset to our school, especially, to the students. We thank both staff members for all they have done. 5 Di]]ir ll5TR TlQf J Dr. Daniel Dresnahan. Thunder and lightining filled the sky as the class of 1960 wel- comed the Juniors and Seniors to experience a night of Fantasy. ' ' They drave the flooded highways to their destination the Chateau de Ville in Randolph. As they arrived, the lovely couples disembarked from their cars. Before the couples joined the each other, they were assembled in the lobby and mode to ascend 53 steps until they reached the climax of bursting flash- bulbs and mannequin like poses. As expected, all were seated, and their night of Fantasy began. The music was performed by the band. Second ScKiery This group consisted of five disco-boys , each in his own uniquely- colored polyester leisure suit. Finally the ultimate trip-the girls were paraded around the dance floor, escorted by their dates. This procession was to decide a queen and a court for the prom. The winners of this main event were Kim Figuerido. crowned queen, and her court Kerry Fennessey, Viki Caseau, Kathy Shannon and Tricia Kelly. Finally, the evening was complete. However, the cele- bration was not. The following day. all got together again in Darstable to top off quire on extraordinary experience. 17 □RNCE CLUB First Row: Diane Villemoire, Nancy Kraemer, Karen Leary, Staci Downie, Jacqui Manganaro, Cheryl Derfield, Christine Civitarese, Kim Smith, Donna Griffin. The following prophecy” contains thoughts and Ideas of what may Robert Fisher, Noreen Cornell, Liz Lofoff, Laura Jones, Mary Beth Hllner, happen In the future at Marshfield High School. Jackie Fontaine, Laurie Burke, and Laurie Bandinl SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY Twenty years from now Instead of names, people will be assigned numbers and classifications for Identification purposes. Such as the National Honor Society members wearing gold to represent the high position they hold. The Advanced Placement students will be wearing royal blue to represent each persons ' s knowing how to use their brains wisely and efficiently. Last but not least, as we glide down the corridor, we see the average person, wearing big green C ' s to represent their commoness . Sliding along on the movable floors, we observe the sights of a normal Tuesday time span. The Individuals are at once singled out from the ctowd: the one ' s that have been trying desperately to defy the system and they feel that this Is their only way to rebel, and not wear their colors or codes. As far as electricity and heat are concerned, they are run by solar energy. As we ' re looking Into the classroom, we see the common students learning their lessons, taught by androids and. the above ovetcge students by master computers; and finally the National Honor Society students learn what they must by head sockets that resemble the outdated beauty parlor hairdryers. Marshfield Is no longer a quiet quaint little town. It has grown up extremely fast and Is extremely modem. There Is high unemployment and no humans receive a regular Income because they don ' t have to work If they don ' t wont to. Our leisure time Is taken up by computer tennis gomes, electric mopeds and mind boggling exercises Life has changed since our high school years because of high Improvement In our economic stalls . . . Many were surprised to discover that so many of their classmates hod taken on such unique and colorful lifestyles since their days at Marshfield High. Marla Rushton for example, has lately defected to Russia where she Is performing weekly with famed Mikhail Baryshnikov In Moscow ' s historical Palace of Culture. The talents of our classmates did not, however, end with Marla. The new pop group The Zygores for Instance, Is rapidly climbing the ladder to fame and fortune. The group ' s members, Rick McKee, Christine Hale, Wade Hodges, Suzanne Clark, and Joe Cooper hove often appeared on the cover of the smash magazine The Doily Dino, established In 1993 by superjournollst John Gaudino. Speaking of superstars. It Is Interesting to note that Janet Callahan and Bobby Frye have recently completed the filming of their new piece of celluloid. The Sequin, which should be released early this summer. Critic Rhonda Burum predicts numerous Academy Awards. Burum commented at the reunion, the film, directed by Woody Allen In conjunction with Patricio lonta enterprises of Beverly Hills, Is Just glorlousi Although no one was able to get In touch with Patty, Lisa Ray, while working with Francesco Scavullo In New York, claims she saw the multl-mllllonalress behind the wheel of a Rolls Royce somewhere in Manhattan. One Interesting Individual with whom we s poke at the reunion was Kerry Fennessey, who disappeared somewhere In Dorchester early In the 60 ' s. Kerry appeared suddenly at the door with baggy nylons and fifteen youngsters tugging at her curlers. Unfortunately we were not able to speak with Miss Fennessey, but we did hear her giggling. During the evening we did speak with Donna Castro, who Informed us of her lately being employed with the M and M company hand-pointing m ' s. Donna points close to 25,000 candles each day, while Pookle Hankey counts and bags. It was also good to speak with Dorian Shaw, who told us of her years since high school. Dorian explained that In an effort to make some kind of a profit In the business with which she grew up, she took her golden arches over to India. Due to her Ignorance regarding Indian culture and worship, Dorian ' s business failed, and she was sentenced by Indian officials to 12 years of reciting the Koran to grazing cattle. It Is good news to hear that David Lincoln has finally graduated from Harvard University. David has been working with chemical compounds in bullion cubes for the past 29 years. Other Harvard graduates Include Sharon Gregory, who has been studying paper mache, Matthew Jack, who has been working In home movle-making, and Roberta Kelley, whose major Is Bob Marley. Congradulatlons to Richard Cowan, who has recently announced his engagement to the highly-sophisticated B-4005 micro-computer which was recently Installed In Duca ' s Simplicity department. During our conversation with Rich, we were slightly token aback when he gestured toward the lobby and whispered, Here she comes now. As expected, Michael Henry has continued his political career, campaigning across the United States for a seat In the Missouri state legislature. Henry ' s secretary GerrI Reilly commented on his success, I think his efforts were well-rewarded. The white bucks and the Irish bread were dramatic clinchers. Superstar More Courtney sounded overjoyed when she Informed us of her overnight success as a Punkette at New York ' s Radio City Music Hall. Mare also told us of a quiet chat she had In the depths of Boston ' s Sumner tunnel with Patty Galvin, who Is directing traffic and collecting tolls there. The gals babbled about their post-high school experiences, one of which was with Julie McKeever, who often speeds through the tunnel In her newly-restored 1966 Jet — block Karmen Ghia. Someone at the reunion asked about the whereabouts of Allison Avery. Although nobody seems to be quite sure, some believe that Allison has yet to emerge from her Prospect Street bomb shelter In which she has been hiding since the early 60 ' s. The class of 1960 welcomed glamerous Liz Lapof to the reunion. Liz has lately been appearing In title roles on Broadway In musical s like Guys and Dolls and Dells Are Ringing Lapof has been considering working with the theatre In Paris, France, yet says, HI HI . . . Golly, Paris has begun to give me the doldrumsi Many were dumbfounded when they discovered a monstrous sailing vessel anchored Just outside the lobby, but when Kim Foote stepped out onto the bridge and dropped starfish Into the crowd, no one was surprised. Inside Kim ' s Incredibly well-furnished yaught, we discovered Beverly Stutzenberger, who wos boogying to the beat of Disco Princess . Beverly ' s success as the host of t.v. ' s Dance Fever has given rise to her Immediate success as a night club starlett In Chicago. Mony thanks ore due to all who participated In making the evening at the BerrInI such a smashing success. We hope to see everyone In the near futurel For those of you who hove been mislead In the belief that RTG upholds a happy-go-lucky demeanor let It be now stated that Gardner ' s attitude has deteriorated os quickly os his hairline. Sally Guodoghno we all lost to the film star of the 1970 ' s, the one and only Robert Redford. Wrapping up the athletics department, I would like to say that the outlook on this Is that the 4th floor co-ed lockerroom will be the sight of a meeting to be held by Coach Ron DIGrovIo and Coach Carol Anderson. This meeting Is for all those Interested In trying out for the co-ed Football team. Finally, I would like to wish you all good luck In your attempted quest for success In this new and modern school year. Thank you.
