i ' WreESS MEMOWAL L BRARV DEDICATION 1973 THE LION AND THE LAMB Miss Denise Brescia and Mr. Edward Hupprich are completely opposite in temperament and appearance. The English Department and students of Marshfield High School are fortunate in having this diversity. Each gives his individual talents to the student body. With her fresh approach to teaching, Miss Brescia encourages students to adopt a new outlook in English. To her, teaching expresses a philosophy of life. She seems to feel that we are all people, working together to learn. Not all of our teachers are as gentle as the lamb, however; we also have our lions. And one of the lions is our favorite, Mr. Hupprich. Besides being an English teacher who GETS THINGS DONE, Mr. Hupprich is both irreplaceable and indestructible. We, the class of 1973, wish to dedicate this yearbook to the lion and the lamb. 4 5 Dr. Robert Peebles, Superintendent of Schools. 6 Mr. Stanley Jackson, Assistant Principal. The staff sollicits and writes news items and articles which center upon school life and school-community events. Feature articles on topics of interest to high school students, from astrology to politics, are included when possible. The newspaper provides in a limited way a very real journalistic experience to the interested student. Staff members have opportunities to edit, arrange, pre- pare copy and make-ups as well as report. Plans for the future include improving the basic mimeo format as student interest and population increase. National Honor Society Twice a year the Faculty Council of the National Honor Society elects students to membership in the society. Election is based upon the four characteristics of scholarship, leadership, character and service. After they are elcted, new stu- dents are formally accepted at a banquet meeting to which parents and guests are invited. The Society also serves a function as a school club. In this capacity, students raise money for an annual scholarship, prepare the student handbook, assist in tutoring and participate in special projects such as Christmas parties for the elderly. 39 Key Club I KEY CLUB MEMBERS Boys Harry Murphy Micky Bohin Ned Bangs Tom McKenzie Biffy Bournazos Ed Barrett Jeff Nangle Parry Burnap Jim Breckenridge Kim Pierce Mary Cahill John Buckley Mike Robinson Mary Castro Jim Collins Steve Williams Donna Cavanaugh Tim Coplan Ray Berberick Marsha Clark Mark Frazier Mark Magnuson Lynn Cole Tom Gardiner Doug Cox Jean Conolly Mark Gemellie Kevin Smith Gerry Crofton Chris Gaughan Jack Sullivan Mary Ann Crofton Roger Gilman Steve Lewis Florence Davis Jerry Guimond Jim Kellogg Girls Judith Derr Meg Doherty Kevin Kelly Nancy Anderson Jane Eiseman Steve McKenzie Ruth Bailey Janet Fay Bill Marshall Judith Barry Laurie Flicker John McLaughlin Michelle Barry Janette Foster Kim Frazier Kerri Fullam Mary Gardinei Susan Gerwig Pam Gibson Stephanie Healy β’ Roberta Itimmel Melanie Jones Barbara Keefe Debbie Keefe Linda Kerry Kathy Keybo Regina Kilfoyle Susan Labo Susan Lannon Julie Larkin Lu Ann Larkin Betsy Maccallum FHeidi Marshall Anne McFarland Terry Mcguire Jan McLaughlin Kim McNally Cindy Milton Shari Moy Ellen Murphy Chris Murray Robin Napolitan Anne Marie Nicholson Beth Page Gail Paulding Kathy Reardon Mary Beth Reilly Mary Roche Roberta Rogers Mary Romeo Mary Ellen Rooney Maureen Ryan Lolita Sabine Amy Shackleton Susan Shanley Laurie Shaw Chris Sheehan Nancy Stamp Pat Reilly Cathy Riordan Maureen Walls Laura Way Kathy Williams Sue Williams Dianne Whitehead Liz Woodard Bonnie Zaborowski Paula Zaborowski Diane Wilson Cindy Emerson Marshalairs Nancy Anderson Raymond E. Student Librarians Student Librarians help out in the Library by checking books out at the desk, keeping the many magazines in order, aiding their fellow students to locate material, replacing books on the correct shelves, sending over-due no- tices, and with the many other details involved in the operation of a busy Library. Membership is open to any in- terested student with at least three hours a week to serve, and the Club usually conducts one money-raising project, such as a second-hand book fair, plus a year ' s end social get-together, together. Members this year are: Cathy Bartlett, President Debby Jackson, Treasurer Cindy Bartlett, Secretary Chuck Bohm, V.P. and Student Gov. Rep. Also: Cathy Franzosa, Cindy Pe- terson, joe Rivard, Diana Dunk- ley, Michelle Francy, Debbie Fjutchinson, Mary Bonfanti, Terry Crowell, Judy Brillant, Jane Crow- ell, Vickie Corse, and Donna Bertino. 43 Orchestra Raymond E. The room was beauti- fully decorated by the prom committee, making the atmosphere perfect. The band that was engaged for the occasion was the Second Society from the Surf in Nantasket, and everyone agreed that they put out a fine performance. The procedure of choosing the queen and her court was a different one from that of previous proms. Mrs. Erickson, Mrs. Romeo, and Mrs. Flammia chose the girls instead of having the class vote because voting has in the past turned out to be a popularity contest. The junior class last year felt that everyone should have an equal chance and that hav- ing impartial judges was the best way. The queen and her court were as follows: Fourth Runner Up β Deb- bie Carlson, Third Runner Up β Kim Southworth, Second Runner Up β Mary Ellen Capps, First Runner Up β Gail Gilmore, and Queen β Stephanie Flealey, who was crowned by last year ' s queen, Nancy McGurty. 50 51 School Fair On Friday, May 12, 1972 the Annual All-School Fair was held. It drew a record breaking crowd as well as greater participation by both students and faculty than in the past. Mr. Jackson, as chairman of the fair, felt the evening was indeed a success. Various departments participated. Competitive displays were held in the home economics, industrial arts, and arts and crafts departments. Flighlights were an Elizabethan coffee house, complete with refresh- ments and entertainment, a paper airplane contest held by Mr. Peterson and his aviation students, a sale of recycled books by Student Librarians, as well as exhibits and experiments by the foreign language, social studies, and science departments. All in all it was an informative and entertaining evening for all ages. 53 Majorettes FRONT ROW: Janette Foster, Debbie Carlson. Not be to de- nied, the Rams posted a 6-2-1 record good for a third place finish, dispelling all doubts as to their right to be in the league. Impressive wins over Hingham, Silver Lake, Abington, Rockland, Randolph, and Scituate, and a tie with Bridgewater highlighted a great season. The Rams lost only to Plymouth and Whitman, the two teams that ended up league co-champions. Great line play, the run- ning of Steve Williams, and a tough defense led by Kevin Kelley, all contributed to the team ' s success. Tackle Mike Anderson was named all-league, all-South Shore, and all- state to conclude the season. Coaches DiGravio, Roper, Henderson, Pearce, and Mucci, cameraman Steve Bocza- nowski, and Athletic Director Jim Anderson all played prominent roles in the teams ' success.
