I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; . . . Wordsworth To Youth Belojigg he FUTURE MR. STANLEY A. JACKSON To Mr. Stanley A. Jackson, our class advisor, our class play director, in gratitude for his deep and warm under- standing of us. We take great pride in his friendship. Successful teaching is based on com- munication between student and teacher. The teacher with a sincere interest in his students as individuals achieves this ideal. This our Mr. Jackson has accom- plished. His success formula radiates his humor, his honesty, and his friendli- ness. Throughout our years together, Mr. Jackson has demonstrated his wish for our success academically. THE 1963 TIDE SCHOOL COMMITTEE Schools do not function of themselves; schools need direction and understanding, The town of Marshfield in its wise choice of school committee personnel services the school system toward goals of high achievement with perception and responsibility. Fortunate indeed are the youth of the community who receive the benefits of the educational activities that go on because of the constructive under- standing of our school committee mem- bers. We, the members of the class of 1963, wish to express our gratitude for the many progressive and up-to-date educational experiences provided us dur- ing our school years in Marshfield. Thank YOU, each and everyone! Superintendent Edwin Martinson, Robert F. Archer, Richard R. Ketchum, Secretary Elizabeth S. Hatch, and Chairman William C. MacDonald. James P. Romeo, Principal Edwin A. Martinson. Superintendent The character of a dynamic educa- tional set-up requires dynamic leader- ship, and our two administrators have through the years demonstrated this positive approach. Both Mr. Edwin A. Martinson, our genial superintendent of schools, and Mr. James P. Romeo, our kind high school principal, have worked hard and long to effect the policies and the measures necessary to keep Marsh- field education at the top. We, the Sen- iors, wish to make permanent this re- cord of our appreciation for the dedica- tion to youth exhibited through action by these two outstanding, capable adminis- trators. How did 175 Freshmen feel when they surged into an utterly new universe, dif- ferent from beginning to end? We were first impressed by the modern symme- try of our new high school; when our awe wore off we found much work to do . Many Freshmen engaged in sports and other extracurricular activities. We also turned to the task of supplementing our class treasury by collecting dues. We are now looking forward to next year when we will be middle -classmen. ROW I: E. Sullivan, H. Stephens. J. In the course of our stay here, we have carried through many extracurricular activities and brought to completion our academic responsibilities. To the school faculty and our administration for their demonstrated wisdom and understanding of us, we wish to express our grateful appreciation. Remembering well that to youth belongs the future, ” we now leave Marshfield High School reluctantly on an outgoing tide to embark on a new adven- ture in life. However, the record of our high school careers remains recorded in this TIDE ! Our thanks go to Mrs. Idyla Etelman and Miss Elizabeth Ellard for their co- operation in helping us preserve the memories of this important period in our lives . The school Student Council provides a superb opportunity for each pupil to ex- press himself through an elected repre- sentative on issues which he considers important. This is training in leadership and in the democratic process. Marshfield was happy to serve as host to the Spring Convention of the South- eastern Branch of Massachusetts Student Council on April 24, 1962. Participating in this conference were forty secondary schools who sent delegates, representa- tives, and faculty advisers to discuss the convention ' s theme; THE AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL; A PERSPECTIVE. The members of the council hope that each student at Marshfield will always consider the council as a place where students can test not only their civic, so- cial, and ethical consciences, but also their judgment as well. The library has an excep- tional magazine collection for both teach- ers and students, a large reference sec- tion, reading lists, reserve materials, and a special teachers ' library. The inter-library loan system enlarges the library ' s dimensions. As an added serv- ice, Miss Woodward instructs all pupils in research work. The forty -four librarians learn as they serve . FIELD HOCKEY - 1962 Although this year ' s hockey team did not win the championship, it had a very successful season with seven wins, two losses, and one tie. There were many exciting and spirited games during the season. One such game was with Norwell. Both teams, in order to get at the ball, had to slide through big puddles covered with wet, sticky sawdust. Five or six girls at a time found themselves sitting on the ground. Fighting spirit and determination pre- vailed throughout the season. The departing seniors hope next year ' s team brings the championship back to Marshfield.
