I M XJ JM If M 1 DEDICATION To Mr. William McLean, teacher, adviser, and friend, this annual is dedicated. As a teacher, he has inspired us to higher ideals and deeper thinking, while his capable direction has enabled the Senior Class and Hi-Y to prosper. Mr. McLean has been a friend to every one of us, although we will not fully realize this until we make use of what he has taught us. With deepest gratitude, we dedicate this annual to Mr. Williani T. STUDENT COUNCIL This year the Student Council had one of its most successful years under the leader- ship of Steve Langenberg. The Student Council added four new members to its original student body officers. They are as follows: Song Queen, Historian, Ma-Hi Times Editor, and Mahiscan Editors. The first of its many accomplishments was the Freshman Mixer held in the Boys' Gym. It passed out the student handbook again, but this year the council limited its distribution to Freshmen and new students. The noon movies have improved over the past years, with the cooperation of the Student Council. The selection of films was better and a wide Cinemascope screen was purchased. The new sound system was put in the Girls' Gym and the Student Council rented it to different organizations. The Student Council was in charge of all the National Assemblies. The Council was in charge of the New Year's Eve Ball and was helped by many other clubs on this occasion. The Student Safety Program on the crosswallcs in front of the Boys, Gym was another one of their new projects. Page Twelve It t, 3 I if L54 .f sg! Daugherty, Mr. Larsen SENIORS This year's Senior class, we would like to believe, is one of the best classes that has graduated from Marshfield High. We sought to make Marshfield the best possible, .md we think that we have succeeded. The highlight of our freshman year was going to the tournament at Eugene where .vc won the state championship. We put on two very successful class functions-a Rummage Sale and a Cooked Food Sale which helped to swell our class treasury during our sophomore year. As juniors, we started the year off with a bang by presenting the Junior Prom with a unique theme- Under the Sea. We put on a strenuous March of Dimes drive in january which helped drain pockets for miles around. Our class sponsored two after-game dances which helped to pay for the Junior-Senior Dessert. Our little gemi' popcorn machine played a big part in our school careers. Our football team won the state championship during our senior year. Our class took advantage of the popcorn machine during the football and basketball season once again. Then in May, we held our Senior Ball which was one of the biggest events in our high school careers. Graduation topped off our careers in June. Wfe would like to express our gratitude to our advisors: Mr. McLean, Mr. Larsen, and Miss Covey, who have helped us so much through our four years. We'll end with a Well done, Class of '56. We were filled with school patriotism that first year, and from then on we have been involved in all kinds of activities, the highest point being reached this year. Carousel was the theme of our Junior Prom with the band providing the musi: from a large merry-go-round in the center. A park scene, balloons, streamers, pinlc lemonade, and costumed servers, added to the fun and excitement. We sponsored an after-game dance, sold doughnuts, and auctioned off our seats in the classrooms for the March of Dimes. We honored the seniors with a dessert, decorated for graduation and baccalaureate, put on a talent show, entered a float in the i'Beat North Bend rally, sold ice cream at basketball games, and were well represented in the various school clubs and sports events. Later in the year we put on a coat hanger drive and sold the hangers to cleaners. And finally we held a dance to wind up the .school year. Thege activities were very successful in raising the money which we will need in our junior and senior years. Q Vffe would like to thank our advisors and our officers for doing a good job.
