Open School 6-8; Bill Francis. Phy. Ed. Open School completed its third year of operation in 1979. The fundamentals, previously developed, were now effectively put to use. Open School teachers have perceived a level of equality and honesty between students and teachers which they feel is unique to their program. Students worked industriously on their self-developed projects, which ranged from U.S. energy policies to mountain climbing to wig-making. The Special Ed. Department is unique because handicapped students are allowed to participate in a traditional high-school but also receive special attention while adapting to the regular atmosphere. -

Service Staff includes the engineers and the food preparers who kept our school grounds clean and our populace well-fed. As one janitor said, I don’t approve of the mess our students make, but I do appreciate the opportunity to be with kids. The food preparers produced 79,120 meals this year for our staff and students. 15 This department provides opportunities for students interested in a business career. Courses are offered which give students exposure to many areas of business. Students can learn accounting, typing, shorthand and record-keeping. Students also take advantage of the work program, which lets students who take an occupational relations course work in the afternoon and receive high school credit. Gym classes included activities like racqueball. volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, badminton, and more. For a change of pace, students attempted an obstacle course that included: frisbee-throwing, sit-ups. shooting baskets and more. PHY. ED. and BUSINESS
