Forensics is a very rewarding activity for Marshall students. The team partic- ipated in five tournaments with other Southern Wisconsin junior highs. The students were extremely successful and gained enormous experience in the areas of interpretation of literature and prose speaking. Mrs. lglar feels, The benefits from participating in Forensics can be end- lessly profitable. The music department performed the musical Scrooge this December. The show was very successful and quite different from anything that had been done before at Marshall. Miss Schuette feels the large cast overcame the many problems a show of this scale may involve. She also said it was a very valuable experience for the cast members. Marshall's all school play this year was The Bad Children which was performed this February. It was a comedy takeoff on Hansel and Gretel. the classic folk tale. Mrs. Ran- dall, the director, thinks the large stage crew did an excellent job on the gin- gerbread house and the ten foot tree. This is the first play at Marshall with specially made sets. Mrs. Randall said, I enjoyed working with the cast members and stage crew. F ORENSICS AND PLAYS Row 1: Heather Linnemann. Cyndi Helquist. The Council advisor, Mr. Tyriver, felt this year's council met its goals, and that a tradition has been established in that the last several years have seen outstanding accomplishments by each council; Enthusiasm, ex- cellence, and leadership have been characteristic qualities of each group. The goal of the student council this year was to promote school spirit and sup- ,ort, and to involve more students n ,hooi activities. Such projects as he Christmas Door Decora- tion contest, wrapping presents for the Salvation Army, and giving goods to Echo helped fulfill their aims. For the convenience of the students, the Council purchased a movable cart and sponsored a traveling store. Also, the council strongly suggested that school zone signs be provided for Marshall, and they worked for the improvement of the Janesville bus system. A major undertaking that the students initiated and completed was raising over $1000 for Mr. Clark, a teacher at Marshall with expensive medical bills. The council sponsored dances, had student exchanges with Edison and Franklin, provided guides for various functions, and sent students to a Madison Stu- dent Council Conference.

This year's stage crew man- aged all of the lights and builtand designed props for ltScrooge and Bad Chidlren. They also assisted in make-up and student directing. The stage crew should be commended on their great amount of organization. This year's production could never have been put on without them. 56 Drama Club has been underthe direction of Mrs. Randall. With the help of Miss Schuette, and the music department, the Drama Club performed the well known musical, Scrooge. Members also participated in the all school play, tlBad Children, a takeoff from Hansel and Gretel.
