BOYS, BUCKETS SWISH TO VICTORY The Marshall ninth grade team finished the season as undefeated champions of the league with a 12-0 record. This year's edition of the Cardinal basketball team featured strong team play which resulted in six school records being set: Most field goals in one game i39i, Best field goal percentage in one game i64Wai, Most points in one quarter t31i, Highest offensive average i74i, Field goal percentage for the year i55Woi, Rebound average for the year MD. This year's eighth grade team finished 9-3 for the season, taking second place in the Conference games. Balanced scoring was a strong point for this team. Three boys moved into the top ten scoring averages this year: John Barry - 41B, Eric Lathrop - it8, and Phil McQuade - 4:10. This team also set a record for the best offensive scoring average - 50.6 points pergame. Coach Pedersen said, This team was a pleasure to coach. They hustled at all times - win orlose- and always kept a good sense of humor. This made for a most enjoyable season. 44 Kneeling: Mgr. Marshall's ninth grade tennis team had a winning season with four wins and only two losses. Bob Mortensen added to the team's glory when he earned first place in the 1978 conference meet. Coach Murray feels this year's eighth grade team had the most talent Marshall's ten- nis teams have ever had. Carrie O'Donnell, Anita Jegerlehner, Pauline Hanson - manager. Row 2: Natalie Rhodes. Amy Dooley, Rita Lawrence, Debbie Regan, Tammy Robeson, Shelley Rhoades, Coach Rhoades. Row 3: Ann Basting, Pam Sterk. Signe Christianson. Shelly Gerner. Teresa Trudeau, Cheryl Rice, Jill Fassbinder. This year eleven girls out of twenty two made the ninth grade basketball team. Coach Caucutt said she had a great time and experienced a good season. The overall record was three wins and three losses. Eighteen out of thirty three girls were chosen for this year's eighth grade basketball team. Practices were held every night after school during the regular season. Coach Rhoades said she enjoyed working with the team. Their successful season record was six wins and no losses.
