To Graduates of john Marshall High School: It is a pleasure indeed to be privileged to greet you through the pages of your Yearbook, and I want you to know of my appreciation of the invitation to do so which has been so graciously extended to me. ' At the conclusion of your high school career it is fitting that there should be a review of some of the things which you have done and your Yearbook affords such a record. For a long time to come, it will recall your happy high school days and the significant accomplishment which has been yours during these four years. The things which you have learned will be of value to you throughout your life. The skills which you have acquired will serve to afford you a means of livelihood in the years ahead. And knowledge and skills together will make you a valued mem- ber of your community. It has been said that high school years are the happiest of our lives. I know that you have made the most of them and that as you look back on them you will fully appreciate what they have meant to you. You are now equipped to go forward to make your place in the world either through immediate employment or through advanced training in further preparation. For the greatest success to be yours is my earnest wish. You are well fortified to earn it and I am confident that you will apply what you have acquired in high school to assure it. Faithfully yours, HEROLD C. HUNT General Superintendent of Schools 7

Do you remember back four years when you came to Marshall uncertain of the reception you would receive, concerned over the magnitude of the building and its devious passages, constantly surprised and delighted by the pleasant learning experiences that unfolded before you? Then, too, there were besides the educa- tional offerings many social and athletic events. These all contributed to the de- velopment of your present well-rounded personality. After four years of pleasant experiences you have developed a specific pattern of behavior that should carry you successfully along the highway of life's endeavors. Now you are about to leave. We hope and trust that you are entering the next episode of your career with con- fidence, a confidence that is born of your experiences nurtured by your training here, and brought to fruition by the association of your classmates and teachers at Marshail. We, who have watched you grow and develop in assurance, dignity, and poise, are certain that the society into which you are about to enter as a youthful par- ticipant will be a more vigorous, a more thoughtful, and a more progressive society because of your contribution to its progress and to its thoughtful deliberations. The need foryour special aptitudes, enthusiasm and vigor were never more ap- parent than now. Truly, if you plunge into the problem of life with the same enthusiasm that you have demonstrated in attaching your high school problems, we, the staff members at Marshall, can be confident that the future welfare of this community has been entrusted to capable hands. DAVID S. COLE 9
