The night of the announcement was a double victory for the lions as the basketball team captured the con- ference title, also. lt isn't only the boys who are playing football or basketball who work hard. The cheerleaders are also very busy during these two seasons. Part of the respon- sibility of a cheerleader is to promote team spirit among the team members. One way the cheerleaders help to do this is by decorating each team member's locker before each game. Such catchy slogans as Lions are iii made from a big number one, We love Lions centered in a big red heart, or defeat 'em made in the shape of a big foot were placed on the locker door of each team member and cheerleader before the game. The hallways of MHS looked quite decorative by the end of basketball season. Some players had managed to keep every slogan taped to his locker. Even though all the hard work is over, one thing that is not over is the friendship that each girl shared while being a cheerleader.

Cheerleaders set the course for a spirited season Gimme an L, Gimme an I, Gimme an O, Gimme an N, Gimme an S. What does that spell? Lions, Lions, Lions! Using such popular cheers the cheerleaders worked very hard the 1983-84 school year. With four new faces on the squad, the cheerleaders had to prove how good they actually were. Instead of having a varsity and junior varsity squad, MHS had only one squad this year. The girls went to Vincennes University for cheerleading camp during the summer. During this workshop they learned several cheers and dance routines that they used during the play- ing season. Agnes Grindle was the Lion mascot. Her crazy antics an hard work greatly increased the success of the cheerleaders. Planning for the various pep sessions held throughout the year helped to keep the enthusiasm high tor the cheerleaders. Mrs. Lolita Parker was the sponsor of the cheerleaders. Her support and dedication was very important to each girl. Pictures A, B, and D: show the cheerleaders as photographed throughout the school year. Members ot the squad are: Connie Morgan, Kathy Thompson, Renee Holmes, Michelle Claypool, Sherri Strohm, Diane Wallace, Lisa Stinson, Agnes Grinle tlion mascoti, and Becky Lueken. C.
