Lions reign over Little lllini Conference A 7-3 record was posted by the Marshall Lions football team. The season had many highlights, including a one point victory over Casey that won the Little lllini Con- ference for the Lions. Due to the teacher's strike in the Chicago area, the Lions became the first Marshall team to compete in class 3A of the state playoffs. The Lions lost to a bigger Shelbyville school 28-11 for the end of a great season. The Lions were known for their never quit at- titude. The Lions started out 1 and 2 but never quit. ln the game against Oblong the season seemed to turn around by defeating Oblong 34-0. This attitude was developed by the leadership of the eleven seniors on the team. The seniors will be greatly missed, but with fifteen returning lettermen, the future for MHS football looks extremely promising. 1983-84 school year brought an end of the Little lllini Conference, a conference that Marshall has totally dominated. The Lions will now be known as independent. A. The big, red machine comes charging onto the field. B. Scott Sherrill and Todd Gunn celebrate another Lion's victory. C.
