, -wg., l Patchwork Pieces Together 1977 Year Making a patchwork quilt is essential- ly a very human activity. Inherent in a quilt is the idea of sharing, a feeling of give and take that began with the first quilting bees. Originally, various patches in quilts were used to recollect important events in the lives of the people who made them. Quilt makers used fabrics from wedding gowns, christening robes, and other important clothing. Originality was also important, as each quilt was unique and signalled special memories for the person who made it. High school life and each year's memories are much like the multi- shaped pieces of a patchwork quilt. Re- membrances are juxtaposed, with each token and recollection creating a piece of the -whole. In retrospect, the events of l976- l977 may seem little more than a patchwork of jumbled color: the bril- liant red of MHS football uniforms against a vivid green fieldg the bright yellow of a school bus or Farrah Faw- cett's hair, the faded blues of favo- rite denimsg the glistening whites of the snow of '77 or Jimmy Carter's smile.
