Aaesw .., -.av-'- MJLS HlSl0Rl In this year of reminiscing we pause to look back over the past years of Marshall High School. The letters M.H.S. are sure to bring back memories-memories dating from 1881. To hundreds of graduates the building brought to mind by those letters is not the building now known as the High School, but may be one of four other buildings that have been known by that name. We are turning back a few pages ofthe 1950 Noctua to give you a glimpse of the past of M.H.S. -I We would like for you to recall with us first the thirteen men who have stood at the helm-steering our schools-and the years they served as superintendents of the Marshall Public Schools: W. E. Coleman ,,,, 1881-1882 H. H. Edminston ,,,.. .. 1907-1910 T. E. Spencer .....,.,. ...... . .1882-1892 F. F. Thompson ,,,,, . 1910-1912 R. H. Emberson.. 1892-1895 L. J. Coleman, a class was organized to do high school work. They met in the Old Benton Cbuildingl while a new building to be known as Eastwood School was being erected. It was from Eastwood that this class was graduated in 1884. However, Old Benton can boast of having had in session the first two high school classes in Marshall. Old Benton stood on the some plot as the present Benton School. me A N 4 xt
