OTICWOR' In days of old, valiant hearts setforth in quest of dragons to slay. The greatest dragons of modern days are Sloth and Ignorance. VVise guides in our House of Learning urge us to battle against these foes, and to take as our counselor, the Goddess W'isdom. Here, in our year book, we show various scenes where pages, squires, and knights are seeking to win Knowledge that will enable them to battle against the formidable foes of Ignorance and Sloth, until they go forth crowned Kings and Queens. Then, guided by the Goddess NVis- dom, to push forward to her goal. Knowledge comesg but XVisdom lingers. Entirely free hand work is done. A great deal of it is with the pencil though, to add variety and interest, We sometimes use crayolas. Flowers. grasses, animals and landscapes are used as models. One great advantage of this class is the nature study we get along with the drawing. A tree, or a group of trees in the landscape is noticed and appreciated as never before. The class is very informal and is allowed to move and talk as freely as at home. History of the Senior Class Completing a twelve years' tour to knowledge. this group of Seniors arrived happy in their success at the end of another step in the advancement on the path of knowledge. At theage of six most of these travelers began their education and continued it for six years in the various grade schools of Marshall. The tour of Junior High School started with much enthusiasm. Success on this tour looked doubtful, as in starting many difficulties arose, such as the burn- ing of the High School in 1921, and the encountering of new students entering school from the three lllarshall grade schools and rural schools. But this coming together proved hut to stimulate interest and fill each section with the desire to succeed as a whole. The eighth grade was completed with the joy of moving into the new Junior- Senior High School. The Freshman, Sophomore and Junior years followed, watched with earnest- ness and joy hy the sponsors and home folks. As travelers of the twelfth vear we wish it weren't all over. The primary purpose of the work accom- plished in the commercial department is to correlate classroom activities with life activities so that the pupils are qualified to make a practical application of what they learn in the classroom. Commercial work, therefore, has a remarkable hold on high school pupils. Twenty-seven per cent-of the entire enrollment of the school is entered in the commercial departments: seventy-three pupils are entered in typewritingg forty in stenography and twenty- nine in bookkeeping. The department is divided into two parts, one large roo-m for machinery and cabinet work, and a small room for finishing work. The present machinery in the--department consists of a power saw, a jointer, a grinder, a band saw and a lathe. The classes began the year's work by making footstools and other small articles. Some of the furniture made this year in- cludes: footstools, phonographs, a vanity dresser, library tables, end tables and book ends. An art fiber class of boys and girls meets during the activity period. Floorlamps, writing desks, telephone tables and baskets have been made. The picture here shows this work in progress and some of the projects in process of construction. Here the boys are taught the use of tools and some general principles of farm construction and repair. Vocational Agriculture, as the name implies, prepares the boy for a vocation. The boys are taught live stock judging and management. By means of classroom instruction and projects on their own farms, proper methods of soil management, and all phases of crop farming are discussed in class and then these same prin- ciples are applied in a practical way in the hoy's project. The work is not limited to the boys in school. lt is carried out to their par- ents hy the teacher holding evening schools with them in the rural schools. There are contests and programs instituted in the local communities that help to advance the interest in agriculture. The boys in class are expected to help some in these community programs. The boys' interest is helped in this department by trips to American Royal Stock Showg State Fair and junior Farmers' Vlfeek held in Columbia, Missouri.
