A SENIOR LOOKS BACK As graduaTion draws near and The prospecT oT making our own way in The world Taces us, we seniors raTher sadly look back upon The IasT Tour years. I-low guickly They have passed. IT seems such a shorT Time since we were only Treshmen. SophisTicaTed seniors glibly direcTed us To The myTh- ' aI swimming pool on The TourTh Tloor. l'Iow Thrilled were as we TirsT enTered high school and adopT- e The new and more liberal meThods which we Tound here. Then graduaTion was yeT a shining goal To be reached only Through Tour years oT hard work. This guickly proved To be neiTher so long nor so hard. As sophomores we began To buckle down, and IiTe assumed a more serious aspecT. I-Iowever, The Tedious Task oT sTudying Tor TesTs was made more enjoyable by The ThoughTs oT TooTbaII and baskeT- ball games, daTes, dances, and oTher such pleasures which play so greaT a parT in high school IiTe. Our iunior year arrived, adding a number oT imporTanT evenTs To our lives. IT broughT The Junior- Senior Prom, ThaT greaT social aTTair oT our lives. a more aduIT Torm oT enTerTainmenT. We began To realize ThaT we were no longer children and musT soon assume The responsibiIiTies which Tall on us as ciTizens oT The UniTed STaTes. This year broughT The war which was To aTTecT our lives in so many ways. IT TaughT us The acTuaI meaning OT sacriTice. The inducTion oT broThers and Triends inTo The armed Torces has broken up many Tamily groups among us. Now we are seniors. Our high school days are soon over, and we have acTualIy aTTained The shin- ing goal-graduaTion. Today, as we Tace The com- pIicaTed problems oT a naTion aT war, problems which we evenTuaIIy musT help solve, we realize ThaT our high school days have Truly been The happiesT days OT our lives. -BARBARA KOS, A SENIOR LOOKS FORWARD As I sTand TeeTering on The Threshold oT IiTe. I peer inTo The TuTure. BeTore me I see a cold, real- isTic picTure. No longer can we be careTree and haIT-hearTed abouT whaT we ThoughT was work. We will have To work as we have never worked beTore. We musTl We will, Tor democracy is depending on us. We compose a new and yeT unTried generaTion. IT is up To us To help in The prosecuTion oT The war, and we are The ones who should make The peace, Tor we are The ones who will be aTTecTed all our lives by ThaT peace. We musT prepare Tor ThaT period when The world will Tinally be aT peace. BeTore me I see numerous opporTuniTies Tor The youTh oT America. VasT Tields oT indusTry will be open To us which were discovered, by science work- ing under warTime pressure. Many youThs will choose To conTinue Their educaTion. We may only hope To begin The greaT Task OT raising The world ouT oT iTs chaoTic sTaTe. Ringing in my mind are The words OT Abraham Lincoln: WiTh malice Toward none: wiTh chariTy Tor ally wiTh Tirmness in The righT, as God gives us To see The righT, IeT us sTrive on To Tinish The work we are in . . .' To do all which may achieve and cherish a iusT and IasTing peace among ourselves, and wiTh all naTions. -RICHARD WEGNER. -ff 'ICN JAME Student C raw eggs... r c peeve is wdmen in any .. .
