MR. THOMAS VETTER Head ocial tudies The goal of the Social Studies Department is to teach history, concepts of government, citizenship, and respect for the great traditions our country represents. The Social Studies Department is represented in every grade level at Iohn Marshall ranging from New York State history in the seventh grade to electives in economics and problems of democracy in the twelfth grade. The department stresses the need for understanding the problems of the past so that the solution of those problems can lead to a better country and world. The connection of a living yesterday with a vital living tomorrow is the essence of all history. Through the use of constantly changing teach- ing techniques and up-to-date resources, the teachers of the Social Studies Department strive to help their students achieve an understanding of the importance of history in their lives. U . . , a living yesterday

MR. DANIEL C. I-IOUSEMAN Head BROWN Science In this exciting space age history shaping headlines confront us almost daily. We are in a global race unprecedented since the beginning of time. Behind each of these stirring headline-producing events is the scientist and engineer. These specialists must receive training . . . training in critical thinking training in the ability to solve problems by the scientific method, training in the development of accuracy and the attention to detail. To develop these abilities, to point out our dependence upon Science in all phases of our modern life, to make students aware of career opportunities in the fields of Science and Engineering have been the goals of the Science Department.
